Paul Newman Passes Away at the Age of 83
An acting legend has left us...
Strangely enough I was recently considering writing a Cinematic Revival article about Paul Newman as I had been revisiting several of his earlier films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler, The Verdict, Slap Shot and many others.
Unfortunately we now learn that what we have gotten is all we are going to get as news has hit that Newman has died after a long battle with lung cancer. It was reported in early August the actor only had weeks to live and it seems his time was finally up. Newman had recently finished chemotherapy and was spending his final days at home with friends and family, including his wife, Joanne Woodward, the actor and philanthropist at his farmhouse home near Wesport, Conn.
Newman won an Oscar for his performance in The Color of Money and was nominated nine other times and also received two honorary Oscars, one being the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1994 and an Honorary Award in 1986.
As I am still building my personal viewing filmography of Newman's career I am far from an expert, but I will say I was a fan. Fortunately I still have a lot to learn about Newman's career and a lot to enjoy.

The Sting and Cool Hand will always be my two favorites (God damn is he good in so many others). But one more for people to consider is The Young Philadelphians. Really good flick and Newman is great in it.
