Pattinson Gets to the Heart of Stephenie Meyer and Her 'Twilight' Series

COMMENTS

Yes Rob, the book series is a sex fantasy realized

You are so cold Edward, can I get you a blanket?

I only read the first book in the "Twilight" series and that was enough for me, but I have been told by several others that read the complete series that it reads like a sex fantasy fulfilled with the most gorgeous guy in the world who just so happens to be a vampire. My friends weren't the only people to think this of these books written by Stephenie Meyer and in a new interview with E!, the star of the upcoming movie, Robert Pattinson, all but calls Meyer a bit on the crazy side for being in love with a fiction character she created:

"When I read it I was convinced Stephenie was convinced she was Bella and it was like it was a book that wasn't supposed to be published. It was like reading her sexual fantasy, especially when she said it was based on a dream and it was like, 'Oh I've had this dream about this really sexy guy,' and she just writes this book about it. Like some things about Edward are so specific, I was just convinced, like, 'This woman is mad. She's completely mad and she's in love with her own fictional creation.' And sometimes you would feel uncomfortable reading this thing."

With that perspective and considering Pattinson plays Edward, I can see how it would be uncomfortable even meeting Stephenie Meyer, especially if he thinks she is in love with her character. As evidenced by a recent mob scene in San Francisco, a lot of fans seem to think Pattinson is the second coming, what is to stop Meyer from thinking the same thing? She is already on record saying she believes Pattinson's performance is "Oscar-worthy." Just by watching Pattinson's reaction in the interview, you can tell he is a little weirded out by it all. I mean, he calls it a "sick pleasure."

That quote, of course, is the most controversial when it comes to Pattinson's opinion of the series and Meyer, but the most interesting is how he also says no one knew how big Twilight was, not even the producers. The film is said to come in budgeted at $37 million (according to Summit; some peg its cost at $40 million-$50 million), but I have to assume the price tag has sky-rocketed, especially since director Catherine Hardwicke recently told MTV the number this first film had to hit in order for the sequel to get greenlit was something like $150 million. Excuse me? Seriously? I just don't see how the film would have to triple it's cost at the box-office in order for a sequel to get greenlit, there are still DVD and Blu-ray sales to consider.

I can only assume Summit is making up for the lack of money put into the production itself by putting additional dollars into the marketing (I have an email out to Summit to see if they can give me exact dollar figures, but that is highly unlikely).

Here's the interview and if you are a Twilight fanatic I just added 15 more images to the gallery, which is now up to 78 total pictures.

    lol
    Roberts got sweaty pits!
he's so adorable when he laughs nervously *sigh*

  2. ScrewyGarrett

    No he isn't.

  3. twilighter

    im ….. offended ……..

  4. shannon

I hate Twilight, but I feel it was pretty lame of him to say those things in a public interview. He doesn't sound at all grateful for the fame it's bringing him. I agree with his opinions, but he should keep them to himself and his friends. It's unprofessional to bash if you're going to cash the checks anyway.

    • nahman

He doesn't have to be loyal to the product and he has every right to an opinion. He has absolutely no obligation to be grateful either. Grateful for what exactly? He did his job. I agree with his assessment. It is just a little creepy and sad how obsessed people are getting with this entire series. All based on the sexual fantasy of some mormon lady. It'd be different if it was well written and unique in some way. It is not. A lot is ripped off of Jane Austin (look her up Twilight fans).

I'm sorry to burst this little bubble but Twilight is horrible, and I'm one of the few guys in the world who appropriate a good piece of romance fiction.

Wow I'm pretty schocked that Rob would just lay it all out there on the table like that. I mean, it would be perfectly fine to voice those opinions publicly if you WEREN'T a crucial part of the franchise!! What an idiot…

  6. meep

Go ROB! Thank god he sees that ridiculous series for what it is. I respect him 100x more for being honest to himself!

  7. meep

shannon, so you'd prefer for someone to lie just for more money? Lie to keep his momentary fame? To deceive people into thinking a worthless product like the Twilight franchise is worth wasting one's time on? Rofl?
IF ANYTHING, the fact that Robert was honest shows that he does not care about money or being the idol of thousands of brainless teen girls or Stephenie Meyer's pet — he's true to himself, he cares about making GOOD movies, he's a real actor! If there is something he thinks stinks, he won't hide it!
    Get a life, shannon.

  8. Camilla

    I like Rob, dislike Twilight.

  9. Taylor

If you ask me… Rob is sooooo awesome!!! I love him! Twilight i think was really good too!!!

  10. Ava

He's so insightful that it's hard to believe he's only 22 and never went to university. I agree it was very harsh for him to say that publicy – but I'm glad he did. It was brave to basically say "the emperor wears no clothes" and it's nice to know it wasn't just me that got that vague, uncomfortable impression of the book.

  11. Cristina

There's nothing wrong with him expressing his opinions. I respect him for that. You're complaining that it's wrong for him to say that, and that he should pretend to like his role and the novel? He didn't know what he was getting into, nor how pathetic the book really was.

  12. Ben

As if he didn't know what he was getting into. The books are not pathetic, obviously,
do I see you reeling in dollars after dollars? I don't think so.

As for Rob? I don't get why he has said such things, yet he is starring in the film adaption.
What would Stephanie make of these statements.

    Hmm…

    • Ta Ta

Who cares what she thinks? She doesn't care! She's reeling in more money than Robert! Remember me is much better. The film is ok, the book is an abomination to mankind!

Posted On August 21st, 2010 at 6:51 pm in reply to Ben.
  13. Jane

    @Ben:
Ben, he could easily not have known what he was getting into, this may surprise you, but not everyone's world revolves around that pathetic series of what can't even be described as real books.

He has every right to express his opinion, like others have said above me, at least he has the balls to say what he really thinks instead of lying just for the sake of a little more money and fame. And speaking of money and fame, the fact that the subject of money was the first thing you jumped on in your comment shows that you clearly possess no further intelligence or higher priorities than the hoards of ignorant, superfial fantarts that this steaming heap of a franchise seems to attract in droves.

Finally, I doubt he really gives a damn what Meyer thinks about his comments, from the sound of things that woman needs to back off and get a freaking reality check. Escapism from reality into a little guilty-please literature is all well and good, but its just like bad fanfiction, you should just keep it to yourself sometimes, and spare the rest of us the pain of having to read/watch/see it bloody everywhere.

    • Kirstin

I agree with you :) Also, @Ben, he's probably doing the films because he's stuck in a contract. He agreed to do them but he doesn't have to like the franchise.

Posted On September 11th, 2011 at 9:33 am in reply to Jane.
  14. Sarah

hmm I don't recall experiencing any PAIN reading/watching/seeing Twlight bloody everywhere. Maybe you should get that checked out.

  15. Dee

Wow, when I saw the movie, I thought the guy who played Edward must be ugly, because he looked so unattractive, but he's not at all. I guess I must just find stalkery behavior unattractive. Go figure. I had the same feelings as Mr. Pattinson when I was reading the book–almost like I was reading the Mary-Sue of a really bad fanfic–that awkwardness when you realize the person who wrote the story probably got all hot and bothered while they were writing it. WEIRD. It's cool that he said it, too. Props to him.

  16. scarlett

No matter what the guy says or does, he will always be the embodiment of her fantasy…He should just abandon all hope and put some money into a savings account for restraining orders.

  17. Leh

Better than him being a lying little prat, eh? No normal human would like twilight, it's poorly written, lacks structure and a Plot. I could list more, but right now, I'm a bit tired :|

All in all : My new-found respect for Robert knows no bounds.

  18. Lara

    HAHAHHAHA HAHAHAHAH HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
    SIGHH

    This made my day.
Yes hte fact he is honest is even better.
lol at least he's not that stupid to like the books.

hahaha sucks to be a twilight fan

  19. alex

what a fucking whinning idiot, he is not brave, he broke one of the most important rules of life, "DO NOT SHIT WHERE YOU EAT" he is probably lashing out because he just realized he will be typecasted as this shitty character and never have a decent acting job after this.

  20. Jane

    @Sarah:
Honestly, I'd be surprised if you were capable of feeling ANYTHING after that lobotomy-in-a-book you subjected yourself to. Maybe you should get that checked out.

  21. Fire

I hate it for this guy.

Y'know Meyer is at home masturbating to images of him as Edward.

    • Lucinda

Yeah, i'm sure he didn't know how bad the movie was until he finished acting his first scenes… too late to leave and break the contract.

Mr. Pattison is aware of that, he must be afraid of Meyer… i guess that if he leaves the production… his gruppies and obssesive fangirls will savagely murder him.

Posted On November 2nd, 2010 at 12:32 pm in reply to Fire.
  22. Kat

    ….I love this guy now.

I'm so glad he was honest and spoke out against disliking Edward and Twilight in general. I swear, that piece of trash that's supposed to be a book is like a really bad fanfic. I can write better then that. 9_9 Honestly, Stephanie Meyer's just some sexually frustrated chick who put her wet dreams on paper.

  23. LR

I agree 100% with RP that this is a personal fantasy that feels like it should not have been shared. If I didn't already like this young man, I would ADORE him now. I don't think he will earn any brownie points for being honest, but maybe staying true to himself is important to him. On the other hand, is it so unreasonable to expect be able to discuss a book freely, and give your opinion without fear of retribution?

Having said the above, I enjoyed the book/movie for what they were – a bit of light entertainment with an interesting premise.

I'm not sure he was trying to be controversial. He just struck me as being refreshingly honest. His image and his acting abilities are the only things contracted to Summit for the next 3 movies – not his mind or his intellect.

  24. Stephanie

Rob is hot i wish i was his girl i really do i don't care what anyone says either.

  25. Kato

I read all of the Twilight series and just watched how bad they could honestly get.

They're poorly written dreamings of what I would assume is an delusional woman,
she needs therapy, not a publishing deal.

  26. MizPiz

You know what, maybe Robert Pattinson is a pretty cool guy. I mean anyone who is willing to openly insult a piece of work for which they are the main character of deserves something.

  27. Lyzzi

this is sadness, the video won't play for me, and i can't find it anywhere else.

Props to Robert, for voicing what we all secretly wish we could yell to the world. It ruined the concept of 'vampires' making them in pop culture, not only gayer, but less dominating and powerful, like they should be.

On top of that, she really needs to learn how to write, and stop being so damned repetitive. I read all four, so I couldn't be claimed for not knowing what I was talking about. Hey, I was even forced to sit down, and watch the movie. Yes, forced. My dad sat on me, and made me watch it with him and my mom, and my sister. They gave up listening to my comments halfway through the movie.

I have to say, that yes, it is painful, to even SEE the book cover for the books. Because I know what is behind those sleek, deceptively clean and clear lines. I know what hides behind those false, intuitive designs.

A terrible nightmare of poor literacy, and even poorer characters.

Please people, if you want a romance novel, read Sherrilyon Kenyon, or Christine Feehan for christ's sake! If you want actual decent vampire action, read Anne Rice. The good stuff. Not this…. perversion wanna-be, called a vampire love novel.

Alright, to anyone who read through all this, props.

As a final note, I must say, "Robert Pattinson, you are officially, my new hero."

  28. Reideen

    @Sarah:

Its rather cool he said it. Because it shows, that he is kinda professional. He doesn't like it, but he still does it. And he'll get his punisment anyway …now Twilight-fans hate him for hating twilight and twilight-enemies hate him for playing edward.

I don't like Twilight, because…no…no – if I start counting every bad thing about twilight, I would be sitting here like….dunno 3 hours or so? 'twas bold and brave to say that into the face of probably the whole world. So I can't really much hate him *lol*

  29. Renee

    @Reideen:

I wouldn't say all Twilight haters hate Robert. I despise Twilight for everything it is, and I adore Robert for speaking his mind like this. Although, I am a diehard HP fan and have a soft spot for him playing Cedric…

  30. Samantha

My quiestion is what does 'it was like it was a book that wasn't supposed to be published" have to do with it? Maybe Stephanie WASNT going to publish it. maybe she was just writing to write and look what it turned into, weather Rob liked it or not dosent matter much.

Yes, It is very professional of him to do the movie even though he does not like the books. But does anyone seriously EVER like both things? Its like with Harry Potter, some only like the books, and some only like the movie. Just another way to compare Twilight Saga and Harry Potter.

  31. Ha ha!

Ha, now that's hilarious and appropriate. I feel bad for Robert now. Not just because of not knowing what he signed up for, but because when it's all said and done he is going to be typecast like hell. Here's hoping he gets another role somewhere that lets him flex his acting chops in a completely different direction.

  32. Krystal Lorana

Both Kristen and Robert both disgust me . Hey Robert , ya u , give me a favor u should spend ur millions and get an extreme makeover and especially Kristen . Oh , I like taylor with his strong muscles. P.S even an 17 year old can be stronger than the 23 year old that i'm talking about and ya it's robert that has flat muscles.

    • Dana

That post over there just showed how shallow you are.
Not all guys can develop muscles like Taylor.
Sure, Taylor has a well-developed muscle structure but did you ever seriously consider how many freaking years he did to get that?
It's not just about the time but the lifestyle, the habits and everything. Also, nudes your genetics and metabolism.
Also, having a well-muscled body also needs maintenance like everything else.
So don't go flinging around things like it's so easy to get a hot body because it's not.

  33. Garrett

@Krystal Lorana: How exactly was your comment relavent to this piece?

  34. ObviouslyNotMe

Wow… I think I just might have some respect for him now… It must feel terrible not knowing what you're getting into and signing a 3 movie contract…
It sounds pretty scary for Bella being a self-insert of Stephanie and being watched by her too…

  35. Ana

@Kat: Yes, I KNOW. God knows how she got the damn thing so popular, other than the mentally insane fans. GOD, Meyer REALLY needs a boyfriend, just hope she doesn't rape Patterson.

  36. Lindsay

I deeply respect Pattinson now, no matter how much I hated him before. I loved Twilight when I first read it, but my respect for it has slowly dwindled. I'm not going to judge Meyer on her writing (considering I originally liked it), but I will say it's nice to here an actor be honest about something like that.

  37. AleXis.

I think Pattinson is a piece and if Meyer is having sexual fantsys about someone like him she isn't aiming high enough for a book written about that. But seriously when was the last time Pattinson washed his hair? Oh and god Kristen seriously they couldn't find someone else. Look at pictures of her of late she looks to be strung out on crack and i think that Pattinson's hinge habits are rubbing off on her. All in all this movie turned out to be like ever movie based on a book disappointing and degrading to the book itself.

  38. Jane

@AleXis.: Its impossible to degrade a book that was terrible to begin with, all they did was make the movie hilarious in the way that it was just so bad it was funny.

  39. barbie

I've never had anything against Robert Pattinson or any of the actors, but my god I HATE those books. The first one espescially is like a fanfic on paper. Think about it.

    Mary Sue.
    Hot boy.
    Parents who DONT UNDNERSTAND!
Over detailed descriptions of clothing/showers/teeth brushing
Rape attempt scene where boy saves girl (Does a fanfic exist WITHOUT this scene?)
    Adjectives, adjectives adjectives
    Love, love, love
Girl is apparantly plain, yet is crushed on by every male she talks to thats not related to her
    Girl constanty saved by boy
Attempts to give girl any character drowned out by the fact that boy is just really hot
    General bad writing.

This woman dont the impossible. Got a fanfiction published. There is no hope. *facepalm*

  40. Kersian

Yes finally the truth is revealed. Go Robert Pattison, I knew it, he couldn't possibly have actually liked his role.

  41. Kersian

    @Fire:

    Oh shit are you serious!?

  42. Kersian

    @twilighter: sucks for you

  43. Kersian

@Lindsay: Are you saying people should not have the right to express their opinions? That we should just shut up about what we think about each other? Listen we have trhe right to do it. The freedom of speech, haven't you heard of that. It doesn't matter if it is nice or not. Robert is only being honest to the people on his opinion about his role.

    And learn to spell.

  44. "How could Edward say that…About himself?!!! Nothing makes sense anymore!!! My heart is breaking!!! Noooooooo!!"

  45. Ellie

Hey, SMeyer needs to hear some criticism, and who better than Robert to give it to her. The woman thinks she's an amazing author, despite her books reading like Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way found a thesaurus. If I were an author, I would listen to criticism, and not have some guy like Seth Morgan to shield me from anybody who doesn't kiss the ground I walk on. If you've ever tried to e-mail meyer then you'll know what I'm talking about

  46. Kersian

@Brunk: This isnt even Edward speaking about himself, it is Robert Pattison, a totally differnt person commenting on the character Edward.

  47. @Kersian: A totally different "person?" Does that mean that the real Edward you speak of is a person too…and not a vampire…? I am so depressed right now…and so confused…?

  48. Kersian

@Brunk: Yeah that was sort of quick for me to say, but what I meant is Edward is a character. From a fictional book. Robert is playing this fictional character. Now he is commenting on what he thinks about the story and it's characters. How can you be confused? It's simple. Robert is not Edward's character. No, it is said in the copyright section of the books that Edward and all the other characters are not real.

You make it sound like such a big deal to fuss about. It saddens me to see that comment, where you droned on "no". Like a family member died or something.

  49. @Kersian: If they are not real then why do I care so much for them..? Why do they affect my life so deeply, in such a fundamental way? If Edward is not real…then are their at least individuals like him; who would be willing to suffer and sacrfice for the one they love? Who would live and die for the one they love? Who would possibly accept an outcast…like me…?

Why do any of us even care what Robert has to say about the fictional Edward, if Robert is nothing like him…and neither one is real?

They were like family to me, the Cullens, I imagined they were my family, being so powerful, yet so pious and balanced…Now I know that I am as crazy as everyone thinks I am…I'm so tired of feeling this way…I have to do everyone a favor…

  50. Kersian

@Brunk: Seriously now? You think you have it bad? You know why do people always think their outcasts? Like no one understands them.

You care so much, because they sound so nice to be around. Of course, Stephenie Meyer wrote them, she gave them no flaws making them sound so amazing and friendly. In fact that is why I dislike them, they have no credibility at all, they cannot be real. Trust me if you read another book you'll see that Twilight is not so hot. An outcast? I think the only reason you are an outcast is because you choose to be one. You carve your own path in your life, not anyone else, but yourself. It is your decision. You can stay an outcast or you can stop being so annoying by stop getting all depressed.

Why should we care about what he has to say? He is human also, he has the right to speak out no matter what people think. Whether they dislike it or not. Youre kidding right? Robert is an actor. He plays the character of Edwatd. And here's the truth, Robert is real.

Stop being so dramatic, jeez. Yeah I know harsh, but this is the Internet for you.

    • Grifter

…lol…Brunk was trolling/punk'ing you. Sarcasm is so hard to detect for some people. He was pretending to be a hardcore Twilight fan. Look at the quotation marks aka…in "character".

Posted On June 24th, 2010 at 12:38 pm in reply to Kersian.
      • Brunk

LOL! I thought she would have gone on conversing with me forever…I am weird, I guess. I even put on a persona in public with strangers sometimes, portraying a character that's not like me. Weird hobby of mine, but always good for a laugh later when I'm having a drink with some friends.

yeahhhh, i actaully read a paper once on how when someone makes a really good poe, its almost impossible to tell that it is one.

  51. mike

    @alex:
it's called a contract, producers can't do shit if he doesn't like his part, and neither can he – except speak out.
If they decide to get rid of him they're gunna lose money by paying out the rest of the contract, and not baing able to make the next couple movies.
Basically, long as he still turns up to filming, he can say whatever the fuck he likes.

  52. Lilyas Avalon

You know something's wrong with a series when even the MAIN ACTORS hate it, at least I now have proof that Twilight is nothing but Ms Meyer's horribly written fanfiction of a wet dream she once had.

  53. Jackal

    AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    Robert owned all fans

  54. Maria

I read all 4 books hoping the story would get better. But, it didn't. I can now say I dislike Ms. Meyer. The story is so slow and just plain weird. I hated the way it was written for example the constant and and and and AND.
I really can't stand Bella or Edward. Bella is such a stupid girl for getting so depressed over her first boyfriend. She states in the books that she has not really dated before Edward. Then Edward is this crazy bipolar idiot. He reminds me of my abusive bipolar idiot ex-boyfriend. I also believe Stephenie Meyer thinks she is Bella. These books were probably just her crazy sexual fantasies. The last book, Breaking Dawn, was very weird to read. I also noticed I had to push myself to finish these books. Why did I read them? Because everyone I know was telling me how good these books are. Will I read any of them again? NO.

  55. Pepe

Why? read the book or watch the movie you bunch of morons, u have the free agency to do or not to do, don't lash out at the author because you sit on your brains, as for Rob he should be grateful someone gave him a job, he is a shitty actor and looks like an ass that his into a bus.

  56. Mr_Pip

Okay. I read the first three, and didn't mind them. Take note, They weren't amazing, just not a totally terrible read. When i got about a quater of the way through the fourth, I slammed the book shut, literally threw it against the wall and announced to myself that "I couldnt take this S**T anymore!".

I respect Rob practically a milliion times more than I used to now for his voicing out. I don't think it'll hurt his chances for better roles. All this media coverage might only make him get even bigger roles.

And as for Steph Meyer…. The only respect she gets from me is for "The Host".

On a side note. Notice the difference in the ability to write proper english between people with actual ideas behind their comments, or the extreeme pro-twilight/anti-twilight -ers. *facepalm*

    • GoldOnion

AND, let's include spelling as being important. For example, you misspelled quarter (quater)and improperly used lowercase i for pronoun I.

Posted On May 29th, 2010 at 11:28 pm in reply to Mr_Pip.
  57. Mr_Pip

Another note: I've yet to see ANY of the twilight movies.

I plan to, only to say that i've seen them, and to please any of my friends who will bug me to no end if I rant about them.

  58. Saga123

God…when i read twilight, it was okay. and i read new moon, all i could say was, "are you freakin out of your mind Bella?! He's just a guy!!! Yes a vampire at that but also a boy!!!! It's no big deal to get so so so sad over that." Elicpse was alright because it had fights, i like "book fights" but all kissing, moaning stuff? Not so so alright. Let me give you some advice, if you want to get a book that's good dont get the fourth book of twilight series, Breaking Dawn.
And ever since twilight got out, people's been crazy about this author! Let's take a breath and think about it, is Edward really that so hot? i mean in the book not the real person RP, or Bella? Let's give credit to an athour, who wrote th book almost the same as Twilight. Vampires Diaries is so good, but twilight's okay.

im not trying to bash anyone. Honstely im just expressing my opnions. Is that a crime?

  59. TeamPotterChic

I respect Rob 100x more after reading this! Thank you sooooo much!

  60. Stateroftheobvious

@shannon: He was in Harry Potter 4, and a ton of other movies. Twilight is merely a fad that he will be known for. If Twilight hadn't existed, then people would still know of him, and several million men would still have their respect for him.

  61. 7cinta

I agree with what Robert said. I read the entire Twilight Saga, all back to back a few weeks back. I liked it, I'll admit but the feelings Pattinson got from the book were the same for me. Sometime the book would seem a little much. I kinda felt like Stephanie believed herself to be Bella. Idk if she made Bella in some sort of image of herself but I definitely got the feelling that she did. I like that Pattinson was honest with what he thought of the book because if I were him, playing her idea of a perfect guy, I'm sure I'd be weired out a bit too. I have mad respect for this guy, his honesty is charming. =]

  62. Ash

Good for Rob. I hope that he makes enough from these turds (Sorry…"movies") that he can afford a couple of big bodyguards and decent secutiry, cause God knows the poor dude needs it. And I also hope that he and Kristen Stewart are having crazy hot sex in their trailers every night of shooting cause that's probably the only thing keeping him there.

  63. Graceland

What happend to the video of the interview? Why can't I watch it? I have searched for it on other sites, but non of the videos work.

Does anybody maybe have a link to a video that does work? 'Cause I would really like to watch the actual interview.

I thank whoever has it in advance. :)

Um it's not overly specific it's called writing. And by the way rob if ur going to complain so much, quit ur job. U just make yourself look like a sell out. Also you don't do such a great job to complain, you were better off as a supporting character.

    • Dana

SMeyer didn't do the best writing ever.
Look, even I myself can do way better writing than she did.
All she had done was some crappy fanfiction with her own universal rules (which although aren't usually bad, aren't usually good either).
      I am serious.

I have seen more than enough grammar mistakes, fake words and just crappy narration in the first 22 pages of the book.
How the freaking hell is that called writing?

All I can say is Twilight is a major insult to any wannabe writer.
Also, it's Robert's choice to play Edward or not. After all, he's just there for the cash.
Pretty much what I would do if I was in his place.

  65. Mr. namefag

This dude is funny, he hates the series, he hates the fans, he hates stephenie meyer, he loves dogs and he only took the job for the money, gotta respect that. He's the epitome of awesome when it comes to interviews, he's capable of being in a watchable movie, like something that I would watch, he's that cool. I'm not afraid to say it, he's my man-crush, someone that I would hang out with.

    • Snickers

lol I agree. He's hilarious. Even if he is doing that corny film Twilight, he's always so sarcastic and stuff and always looked half-pissed haha.

  66. Iggi

I agree immensely, I think Stephenie left out everything and through the whole series I felt like I was reading one of those fanfictions in which the author inserts an OC who's the biggest Mary Sue ever and they're suddenly the most important character in the story.

Bella Swan is obviously modeled after Stephenie Meyer, just look at how she describes her, and then flip to the back of the book and look at her portrait.

Not only that, but Bella blames herself for tragic events happening, considers herself plain when in reality every guy drools over her, has some type of magical power even though she's just a 'normal girl', is smart, and is constantly being saved. All of these are big no-nos on any character-making guide.

Stephenie also left some major holes in her story or said things without any explanation, which made it not seem sense at some points.

& For those saying he's being ungrateful. Would you take a job that you hated if it meant a constant stream of wealth? I know I would, I mean America is in a recession, a constant flow of cash would be great even if it's something you don't really want to do. Robert also doesn't really like the hoards mauling fans (at least that's what I've read).

Finally, let the record show that I do not like Robert Pattinson or find him attractive, I do respect him more however for voicing his opinion so boldly.

  67. JuneBug

Twilight is the most horribly written piece of tripe I've ever had to lay my eyes on and I 100% agree with Rob on what he's said.

However, it was horribly stupid of him to say and he shouldn't have said it. YES HE SHOULD LIE! Or at least skirt the issue and not be so forthcoming. He's not there for freedom of speech or to voice his personal opinions, he's there at that interview on the job. SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT IS PAYING HIM TO BE THERE AND DO THAT INTERVIEW!

Summit Entertainment, the people who are making Twilight, are his employers. It's highly unprofessional to bash the company/franchise you work for. You would never walk into any other job and start complaining about it like this. You ESPECIALLY would not go out on company business and slam it to customers. That's essentially what he's doing here. He's being paid to do an interview to PROMOTE Twilight, he's representing the movie/brand/company/whatever you want to call it to get people interested in it and instead he goes and says bad things about it on the companies time and money. If he didn't have a million fan girls going nuts over him he'd be fired post haste and rightly so. It's beyond unprofessional and you just don't do it.

Many many actors have not liked some of the projects they've been involved in, some even down right embarrassed however they do NOT bash them like this or say negative things about them until after the movies have come out and run their course. That is the professional way to handle it.

All that being said, I enjoyed hearing him admit it and will love sending this interview to my Twilight obsessed cousin.

  68. Samantha G

Could someone give me another website where I can view the interview please? It says it cant be viewed here no more and I really wanted to watch it.

    Thanks.

  69. BrandiSoller

"This woman is absolutely mad" – R. Pattinson

Admit it, she made this series because she had a wet dream about a young guy with a hot body. What a pedo.

  70. Sheridan le Fanu

and I used to think he had to be a twat to be in Twilight.

In fact just watching his interviews and him slating Meyers, twilight and the fans with lulz: actually makes me respect the guy….

    ::mancrush::

Anyway is this interview on Youtube – it seems to have dissapeared?

  71. Rumi

He is a twat. He doesn't understand the character, be it someone's fantasy or not – he is just plain rude to the woman who has thrown him into stardom. Makes all these claims about how he researched the character but can't act properly at all, and what is all that nonsense about how he and his beloved kirsten were trying to make the film more than a teen flick ? Their pompous comments are hilarious and tragic, because they couldn't turn a simple story like twilight and translate the characters onto screen, but claim to have tried to do SO much! There are a thousand teen films much better acted than this.
Rob seems to be a stuck-up prig, who only took on the role because he fancied Kirsten Stewart…he's said that so many times in interviews…'I did the rehearsal with kirsten and 'liked' it, and wanted the role'. Bloody hypocrite, accusing the writer for being sexually driven when he clearly is sexually obsessed too.
I don't mind that he dislikes Twilight but can't understand why he is humiliating Stephenie like this when it is due to her that he will become rich. He doesn't have to suck up to the writer and producers, but a little respect would be decent. What an upstart bastard!
No wonder Kirsten and his acting looks souless and makes the film appear to be a parody.
These two don't deserve the blinded love of their poor fans, he is plain ungrateful and arrogant.

    • Cassie

Wah, wah, boo hoo. He's a human being with opinions – and anyone over 14 who says the message behind the series isn't in any way bloody creepy is either lying or hasn't got it. At all. If he doesn't like the series – and it has been made quite clear in this and other that he only took the part for the money and has really no interest in the role other than working with Kristen Stewart – it is entirely his prerogative.

Also, I'd like to point out to you that a character as badly written as any of the ones in the series in question is going to give even the best actor problems. Watch Kristen Stewart in Adventureland – she was good. This is because the script was a damn sign better in that film. In fact, he was even better in Remember Me, and that was quite turgid too, as I recall.

A final point: Robert Pattinson does not have fans. Edward Cullen has fans. A lot of easily-led and mentally-unstable teen girls think that they are one and the same, which quite understandably annoys the bejeezus out of him. He's getting rich, but he will get typecast as the dumb pretty boy until the day he dies – nothing will remove that from him.

      Poor chap.

  72. remy

A chaste bodice-ripper aimed at tweens. And probably a wet dream. There are no more original ideas, only the details. Unfortunately, Meyer has borrowed the details, too. I think she watched too many "Buffy" episodes, to name at least one source, plus a multitude of romance novels in between her 'literature' studies.
It is frightening to think of the millions of young girls who now think abusive, controlling, handsome men/boys are to be desired.
I feel sorry for them all (the actors, at least): no more private trips to the can. But, for some, a small price to pay.
Apparently, Mr. Pattinson has some regrets: like fearing for his life. I can't blame him.

  73. linda

I think I actually respect Rob now, for calling Meyer out on what everyone knows is the truth. That hack's made a fortune on what reads like badly written fanfic written by a preteen. Everything about Bella reeks of a Mary-Sue character.

  74. GoldOnion

Hardly. Sex fantasy book(s)? These are the tamest books in the sex department. Stephenie Meyer masterfully blended timeless romance, modernized vampires and werewolves around young people. It's so innocent the jaded are just nauseated. Seriously. I read history, bios, educational books. I get my fiction in movie format. By accident in 2010, I came across a movie titled New Moon, liked it, found out that there was another movie, then read the books (don't normally read fiction) and enjoyed them. Either Pattinson's comments were taken out of context or he has been abused/used by females and is hypersensitive.

    • MLE

Thank you for that I have read the book and seen the movies i liked them I even let my 10 year old read them. I might have had to explane some of the words to her but she just thinks it cool no more So what if it came from a dream. This book are no diff from some of the romance books i reed and im sure they started as a dream too And as for rob so what its his opinion my kids like tylor better so Robs is cute he still cant act

  75. SilentAngel

I respect the fact that Rob had the guts to speak his honest thoughts out loud. It shows that he is not doing the job just for money.

  76. GoldOnion

And where's the video? Tweeted how many times? :P

  77. GoldOnion

Oh! I just noticed something. This is ironic or too funny. Notice the banner just above LEAVE A COMMENT. The banner states: "PLEASE NOTE – If, in any way, your comment is an attack on the author of this post or a previous commenter…..blah, blah, blah." But it's okay to attack other authors (not even constructively). Too funny. LOL. BUT, I still want to know what happened to the video.

  78. Adup

I like him a lot more now for saying this.

Twilight is ridiculous. It is written like bad fanfiction.

  79. Fatima

Patterson is the last person who should be talking smack about authors who write shitty novels.

  80. Fatima Al-Shemary

I can understand why people are so fascinated with the books. Interesting that a vampire's heart can't beat, yet they can get an erection and produce viable sperm. Hmm…

  81. I feel for Robert to play in such pathetic series as Twilight. I understand his words. And they're not misplaced; they're totally right.

    • Close but never close enough

Has anyone ever told you'll how disgusting you are?

seriously, hate the entire cast just because they are in these films is the most childish thing I've ever seen.
Did you guys have ever seen another movie that Kristen worked?
The Runaways, by example. Just because she's in Twilight, IT DOESN'T MEAN SHE'S BELLA.
I'm a potterhead, and I am seriously disappointed with everyone, it just shows how immature you'll are.

  82. crystal

all I have to say is: if the guy playing the main character in your movie thinks you're weird, you've gone far beyond the human limitations of insanity

  83. thelion

lol RESPECT! Meyers is a mad woman, what the fuck is wrong with her, she writes about Edward like an erotic god. -_-" and how old is she again? -_-

  84. MLE

you pople need help just because you have low selfesteam dose not give you the right to be pompus In truth we are all a little mad if we were not then this world would just suck as i said be for everyone has there opinion we just dont have to lision sorry bout my spelling and grammer its a part of who i am

  85. MechanicalToaster

Haha, just got finished reading through all the comments. Very amusing way to spend an hour! I like Pattinson a bit more for being unafraid to share an honest opinion, no matter what it is.
And I believe GoldOnion said these book can't possibly be a sex fantasy based on the fact that there isn't much sex? The keyword here is fantasy. Twilight is Meyer's fantasy about meeting a perfect guy who will hold power over her. Then they'll get married and have lots of sex before producing the perfect child. I feel like I should pity her actual family…
Also, MLE, expressing that you shared someone else's opinion on something, whether positive or negative, does not equal low self-esteem. And really, no need to get so defensive about the grammar and spelling! Though if it's a part of who you are I'm not sure what it says about you is necessarily good.
Just felt like saying my piece.
Happy Thanksgiving, to twi-haters and twi-fans alike!

  86. ailsa

Lol, this is hilarious, but he has every right to state that he hates Twilight, although it sounds a little harsh coming from the star, but still, he was way better in Harry Potter. Seeing as he actually enjoyed his role. I seriously doubt Meyer cares what he thinks, all that matters to her is the cash she's reeling in.

  87. Angie

I like Robert Pattinson- I've always wondered if any of the Twilight cast even liked this Twilight rubbish.

This interview is going to win Pattinson a few fans.

  88. HPotterhead

Rob has finally earned respect from me.
I am a teenage girl , by the way. I HATE the Twilight series and LOVE Harry Potter.

He tells the truth. Twilight is NOTHING but a piece of uncomfortable trash that Meyer wrote to satisfy her sexual desires one fine evening. She is HONESTLY in love with Edward Cullen, her own character. And her plot line DISTURBS me, people. Perversion and stalking should NOT be called immortal, unconditional love. Meyer believes that because she can put both a women's and girl's sexual and amorous fantasies on paper, she is the one of the greatest writers in the world. First of all, Meyer, egotism, much? And secondly, J.K. Rowling and Stephen King can kick your "ability" to the pits of Hell.

Rob, KUDOS. You were much better as Cedric Diggory, and I honestly feel for you; You have to deal with the load of trash that is called Twilight. I admire you now, and to be honest, I do like your acting.

Thank goodness Harry Potter exists. I would die if there is no other alternative but Twilight.

  89. Nessur

Twilight is worse than My Immortal the Fanfiction.

  90. He stated his opinion – his honest opinion. He has every right to do that. He comes across as a very level-headed, down-to-earth guy. He knows what he's talking about. He understands these are not good-books, Meyer has egotistical issues along with narcissim, and that he realises how incredibly overrated the Twilight series is. As another poster stated – he did his job and I'm sure he acted his best. He's not obligated to like the series just because he is in it. I respect him even more for this. He spoke his mind. It's ridiculous of Meyer to state his performance is 'oscar-worthy.'
Meyer is the worst thing to happen to literature. Her books are nothing more than the sexual fantasies of some dumb, crazy, fatass moron house-wife.

  91. Chiko

brilliancy. Such brilliancy. I like this guy xD

  92. Neha

I just don't understand why does Rob bashing the movie and the book. If he didn't like the script and the story in the first place then why did he agreed to act in the same movie. C'mon Rob, no one had put a shotgun at your temple to do this.
He is only saying this because everyone is hating Twilight.
Though I'm also a twilight hater, but Rob's statement are just weird just like his character in the movie. Showy but no substance.

  93. Snickers

Robert was having trouble finding jobs and was thinking of quiting acting before Twilight came along. Of course he stays in twilight, it's got him a tonne of money and fame, even if he is going to be typecast and the series is a bit shitty. Who wouldn't? I would do that if I was going to get loads of money and stuff.

  94. leah

i disagree with the people that hate robert Pattinson i mean ever since He was cedric Diggory he has been my greatest inspration and even though i haven't seen all of the movies he's been in except the twilight Saga and Harry potter and the goblet of fire. all of my friends say robert is so ugly and he would'nt like me but since i think he is such a great person i think he would like me alot because no matter how old he is or how he looks because to me he is the greatest actor who ever lived and i cherish him for that.

  95. Dominique Nicole

    Team Jacob Yeah Buddy:)!!!

  96. Vakarian

I think RP was well within his rights to say what he has said. Yes, the role bought him fame and fortune but he did his job and in doing so he made everyone a lot of money. Twilight is lacking in both story and substance, what it does have is a hot guy playing a sultry vampire. THATS the cash cow, it's not just Meyer's sexual fantasy, it is a fantasy that tweenies and women world wide can relate to and so they will pay to see it on screen.

Twilight is trash, it is enjoyable enough as a light harted piece of fantasy fiction but it's trash all the same. Not saying it wouldn't make that any less of a fact.
