Paramount Goes With Blu-ray and the 'War' is Officially Over
Will you buy a Blu-ray player or PS3 now?
The Hollywood Reporter apparently received an exclusive announcement from Paramount Home Entertainment saying, "We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer. As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."
The announcement comes on the heels fo two recent HD DVD announcements for There Will be Blood and Sweeney Todd without corresponding Blu-ray release information. There is no telling when Paramount will officially make the switch or if it will be a gradual shift or if they will continue to release titles on HD DVD, a format that is now pretty much dead.
My only concern now is whether or not Paramount is going to release the final two seasons of "Star Trek" the Original Series on HD DVD as they did the first season or if they will now release all three seasons on Blu-ray. Seriously, it may sound stupid, but I love the original "Star Trek" series, it is the ultimate in entertaining camp programming.
Other than that all I really am looking for from Paramount is the Indiana Jones series on Blu-ray, but more importantly The Godfather trilogy on Blu-ray because I recently watched the DVD trilogy I have and I swear there is A LOT more restoration work to be done on those prints and in high-definition it may be my most sought after high-definition title. Of course, Star Wars is up there as well.
