Oscar Watch: 'The Duchess' Costume Party
This is the first time I have seen something like this
Kris Tapley over at InContention points us toward an interesting section at the official website for the Paramount Vantage holiday release The Duchess.
The site is pubbing the costumes for the late 18th century period piece based on Georgiana Spencer, the Duchess of Devonshire, played by Keira Knightley. The move appears to be an obvious early ploy at vying for the Best Costume Oscar nomination, but it doesn't end there as the "Discover" section refers to Georgiana as "The Empress of Fashion" pointing out a variety of fashion specifics such as mind-bending knowledge of "Coiffure," "Plumage" and so much more.
The Duchess hits theaters on September 19, and while I don't think it really looks like much of a Best Picture contender who knows what may lie in the future for Keira Knightley as she may once again be looking for a Best Actress nomination.
