Perhaps I should say Oscar 'contender' posters

This is obviously an assumptive post considering none of these films have won Oscars or even been nominated for one yet, but several new posters for films I have listed as Oscar contenders have arrived online in the past few days and so I figured I'd do one big bulk update with a few comments here and there.

Let's get to it.

First is the final poster for Fox Searchlight's 127 Hours, which I am currently scheduled to see again tomorrow for the third time prior to sitting down with director Danny Boyle here in Seattle. Have any questions for him? Let me know what they are in the comments…

Next is the poster for The King's Speech, which rightly is getting skewered at every corner on the Internet. It is a terrible poster featuring four raised eyebrows and a dumbfounded King. Whoever approved this for release may need a good talking to.

Next is one of the animated contenders I discussed earlier today, the Sony Classics release The Illusionist. I can't say I am particularly fond of it since there is far more gorgeous imagery to be on display from the film rather than just another shot of the film's lead character in the ever-so-recognizeable Tati pose. Oh well, the film is still a quality one and one I think deserves more than one viewing to fully appreciate… I know I plan on seeing it again.

Here we have the poster for Morning Glory, which is receiving some good buzz, particularly for Harrison Ford who may have a shot at a Supporting Actor nomination should the buzz turn into something more of a rumble. The film hits theaters on November 10 and I am seeing it next Monday, November 8. Personally, I don't really like that kind of scheduling as tight review windows typically mean the film isn't very good, but I guess we'll see.

Finally, the least "new" poster of the bunch, the French poster for Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, which is pretty much a tighter shot of the domestic poster, but it's new so here you have it.

Regarding the Danny Boyle interview, I would love to know if there's any progress being made with getting '28 Months Later' off the ground. Also, is this going to be his next project, or does he have something else in mind?

@Brett – For now, unfortunately, Boyle is taking a 2 year break from film making because he's directing the opening ceremony of the Olympics in London. We'll know then what his plan is. Either 28 Months Later, a sequel to Trainspotting, or a whole new subject. Till then, many Hollywood directors can have a sigh of relief LOL

Seeing 127 Hours for the third time?? Damn you Brad. Do you know if it's ever getting a wide release, or at least semi-wide? I know it opens this weekend but, only in four markets. :(

    King's Speech poster is horrible!!!!

The illusionist is too credited. i don't understand all the praises u have to put on the poster.

    I only love morning glory's poster. duhhhh…

Wow. That King's Speech poster is really quite appalling. Still want to see the film a lot, mind.

I can't say I particularly like the Morning Glory poster either, but I suspect I'm not the target audience.

None of the Morning Glory posters have been very good. Just shots of the stars. The orange is eye-catching, at least… and Harrison Ford's face is really hard to look at without laughing. But at least they aren't floating heads. Just floating torsos.

Meh. The 127 hours poster is the only one that's actually…well, good.

Hey Brad, can you possibly ask Mr. Danny Boyle..
"What are some of his all-time favorite movies?"
"What was it like filming in utah?" (I live in Utah, myself, so i'm just wondering)
"What inspired you to become a filmmaker?" (I guess thats kind of a cliche' question but…)
"What kind of camera's did you use to film 127 hours?"

    I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Tell Danny to make TRAINSPOTTING 2.

Brad, ask Danny Boyle why he ended up with 127 hours when he said after Slumdog that he wanted to tell a woman's story next. Does he still have that in mind?

The Morning Glory poster is ridiculous because it's got a picture of Harrison Ford with Rachel McAdams' name over his head, and a picture of Rachel McAdams with Harison Ford's name over her head.

Between the trailer and the poster, I feel like the Weinsteins are really trying to market The King's Speech as a comedy. I wonder if that will backfire on them.

The King's Speech poster sucks. The only good one is 127 Hours. Also why is Morning Glory considered a Oscar Contender? It is basically The Devil Wears Prada in the television world. It also does not look very good. I highly doubt it will get any noms unless the script is great or a performance is great.

Wish I could see 127 Hours here :( Is it getting a wide release or am I going to have to wait for the Blu-ray?
