An Official Kurt Cobain Biopic in the Works
Details however still remain a little sketchy
In 2005 a film based on last days of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain called Last Days was released and only managed $463,080 at the box-office, but that film was described as a work of fiction and that none of the characters or events portrayed in the film were real. So, there is still room for an actual Cobain biopic and it seems one is in the works over at Universal Pictures as David Benioff (Wolverine) is set to adapt the Cobain biography "Heavier Than Heaven" written by Charles Cross. The interesting thing is that the producers and studio would not address whether they had locked down music rights, or the nature of the story they are trying to tell. I am not sure if Courtney Love holds those rights, but if so that could be a nasty negotiation, but since she is on board to executive produce the flick that may help clear things up.
For those unfamiliar with Cobain's story don't look forward to an uplifiting story as he was part of the rock band Nirvana that pretty much put grunge music on the map when they hit in 1987 right here in Seattle. The hit that made them superstars was "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and it went on from there, but ultimately drug use brought the singer down as he ended up committing suicide by shooting himself in the head at the age of 27 on April 5, 1994 and ultimately found by an electrician on the morning of April 8 with a suicide note near.
Of course, there are still those that believe there is some kind of a cover up, but since Love is involved I don't see that side of the story being told.
If you want to see a page dedicated to the death of Cobain click here, they pretty much have it all.
