Official Domestic Trailer for the First Part of 'Che'
How do you feel about the Cuban revolutionary?
Steven Soderbergh's Che is a weird film in that it made a lot of noise earlier in the year after debuting at Cannes to mixed reactions while earning Benicio Del Toro a few kudos along the way as he played Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Told in two parts the film was having a hard time finding a buyer until IFC stepped in and is prepping to give the two-part 262 minute feature a limited Oscar release run on December 12 before expanding its release in early January as well as being available on video on demand and at Blockbuster.
Since being sold there hasn't been much talk and it appears a lot of Oscar prognosticators have sort of forgotten about it even though Del Toro apparently gives a great performance even if the films themselves aren't that great. The first official trailer for the film has debuted at Yahoo giving us a glimpse at Part One of the two part feature. You can check it out below or click here to check it out in high definition.
The film looks fine to me and I remain interested in seeing it. However, I think it will all depend on where you fall politically and how unbiased Soderbergh is in the telling of the story when it comes to deciding on just how much you like it.

Nice, Double B!! So what do you think are Del Toro's chance in getting an Oscar nomination?
I would really like to see this as one long film in theatres, but in Wisconsin that's gonna be impossible. Hopefully I'll get to see this in January though.
I hope this film is better than the review I read from Daily Variety back in October of 2008. I'm not too worried about the politics of the film; I love the film Downfall, about the last days of Adolph Hitler, that doesn't make me a Nazi lover. Oliver Stone's portraits of Richard Nixon (Nixon) and George W. Bush (W.) were a bit too sympathetic; however, the films were still wonderful biopics; doesn't make me a Republican.
I just hope Soderbergh and Del Toro were up to the task; I've got the sneaking suspicion that this film might end up more akin to the faux film "Meddin" that the fictional Vincent Chase makes on "Entourage."
Still, I'm very hopeful. Che was one of history's most enigmatic revolutionaries; I'm just glad he's finally getting an epic film treatment, ala T.E. Lawrence or Jake LaMotta.
