The first domestic trailer for Oblivion starring Tom Cruise and directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy) has arrived following the international trailer earlier today that had to be pulled.
Oblivion is set on a future Earth where Jack Harper (Cruise) is something of a WALL•E character in that he is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack's mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
Morgan Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough co-star and Oblivion will arrive in theaters on April 19, 2013.
Watch the trailer below.
I think I'll probably check that out.
Looks Gud...Trust Cruise to bring somethin extra always....hopefully will also erase memory of Kosinski's Tron : Legacy....
I guess Iceland is the new 'go to' location for alien worlds/post apocalyptic worlds. In one shot I was pretty sure I saw the same Falls used in the opening of 'Prometheus' this year.
It is pretty spectacular looking mind. Can't blame them.
Saw a mirror version of this trailer over on reddit. I must say, the visual design in this trailer is extraordinary. Some of the CGI isn't exactly photo-real but it all looks impressive on an artistic level at least.
I'm not entirely sure about the cast. Tom Cruise certainly has a strong screen presence but it seems more fitting to cast someone with a less Hollywood feel to him, like Clive Owen or Colin Farrell, who fit the tone of that regrettable Total Recall remake quite well. I'm also a little unsure of Kurylenko.
I think this could be one of the more interesting science fiction films of 2013. It's nice to see Kosinski get a chance to redeem himself after Tron Legacy and hopefully he doesn't make the same narrative mistakes with this film as he did with that one.
I think the casting of Cruise, besides him being a phenomenal actor, is the fact that he's the most bankable action star in the world. And without Cruise, they probably don't get the budget they want to work with.
This trailer does not bode well for the movie. Sci-fi's have reached the saturation point. Cruise is always the pro but he should be very selective in his choice of material. He can afford to be. His talent is undeniable. Should have received an Oscar for Born on the Fourth of July. I hope I'm wrong about this one.
This wasn't really on my radar (I never saw Tron Legacy), but it does look pretty cool and I'll probably have to check it out pending the reviews. As far as Cruise goes, yeah it does seem like uninspired casting, but maybe Kosinski needed a big name headliner to get the budget he wanted...or even to get the green light at all.
Honestly, aside from Tropic Thunder, I have grown to really dislike Tom Cruise over the pas few years.
Bad trailer, but shows promise. Kosinski disappointed me with Tron though.
Looks excellent.
Great trailer! I hated "Tron: Legacy" but this looks promising.
It's been a long time since I've wanted to see a Tom Cruise movie...this looks like fun.
Looks incredibly cool. Looks like the most interesting/original film Cruise has been in since Collateral.
