Now Russell Crowe is a Klingon?
Damn, can they really pull this off?
Just a couple days ago IGN was reporting that Tom Cruise may be up for a role as Captain Christopher Pike in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, a rumor that made sense since I can easily see Cruise in the part. Now, they are reporting that "Paramount is trying to woo none other than Oscar winner Russell Crowe to play the film's villain"! Yeah, Russell Crowe as a Trek villain!
Chances of this happening have got to be slim considering Crowe will be filming Body of Lies and Nottingham, both for Ridley Scott, before the expected actors' strike next year. IGN echoes the thought as well does their scooper, as they go on to say that "the search for a strong actor and commanding presence such as Crowe suggests that the story's villain could very well be, like Kirk, a leader of men — a role that Crowe is utterly believable in. Whether the villain is human, Klingon, Romulan, Vulcan or some other alien species remains uncertain."
Shooting is expected to begin on November 5 and IGN has plenty more news in their two-page article here. Give it a read, it may be repeating a lot of information you have already heard, but at least it is all in one place.
So far the cast is made up by Zachary Quinto as a young Spock, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov and Leonard Nimoy is aboard as well. Hopefully more is revealed soon as cameras set to roll and we anxiously await more news.
