No Verbinski for Pirates 4? No Deal!
Who does a guy gotta kill to get some frickin' loyalty?
The word is no Gore for Pirates 4. Unlike that Raimi guy missing Spidey 4 this would actually be pretty horrific news for us Pirates fans, Gore has nailed the first two editions in my estimation. Here's the blurby blurbness from Jim Hill Media:
Gore's sick of pirates. If I wrote a scene that had to be shot on water, he'd run the other way.
This quote is coming directly from Berkeley Breathed, the long time cartoonist who is currently working with Mr. Verbinski on a CGI project called Flawed Dogs, based on a book Breathed wrote (and illustrated).
I have a myriad of questions here. First off, how can a CGI film have a scene that's shot on water? Am I missing something here? Also the article says Disney is looking at 2009 for a possible Pirates 4. You telling me a few years off and $35 million or so wouldn't cure even the most ardent seasickness? What about if they say "Hey Gore, no sweat on going near water, we're going to film this one in the desert. Or on the moon. Heck, anywhere you want to film it is just great with us." You telling me that wouldn't work?
Because the alternative is NOT making a billion dollars and it seems like Disney would be very interested in making a billion dollars instead. Yes, you could replace Gore but why would you? He's had a level of success similar to Peter Jackson with the L.O.T.R. series and you don't mess with that.
They need to make Gore a deal he can't refuse and Pirates 4 needs to happen. With all the franchises that have been jacked up lately we all have a vested interest in seeing a good one continue with everyone intact. Gore, man, I'm begging you. Let's just think this thing through. No rash decisions yet. Sleep on it for a year. We'll have that blank check waiting.

This quote is also from Berkeley Breathed (saw him this evening May 10, 2007 at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, WA)
"Mr Verbinski loves Pirates- as much as his own mother!"
A couple days ago, this one young man (didn't want his autograph- just 'shooting the bull' so to speak with Breathed) and he asked Berkeley if Verbinski was sick of Pirates now and he (Breathed) was just kidding in his response. Then next thing he knows, it's blogged and all over the web. Gads one has to really guard what they say in what they think is a fun casual conversation. Then look what happens. People can be such doorknobs.
If it is I whom am doorknobbish my apologies. If it's the person who originally spread the quote then I agree. If it's both then I will suggest a sit-down with that doorknob wherein we form some sort of knob club. Personally I would favor "Grab My Brass" as our club name, with "Turn me for a good time" as our slogan. And I imagine we would wear Viking hats.
