Robert Downey Jr. has been making movies since the 1980s and almost 30 years later he has to give this quote to USA Today:

"I've loved every part of Iron Man," says Downey, who will reprise his role in the comic book sequel, out in 2009. "But the last thing you want is to be seen as that guy, who just does that role."

It has bothered me for the past few months at how it seems everyone has all of a sudden realized Downey Jr. is a good actor just because he was in Iron Man. The guy was nominated for an Oscar 16 years ago for Chaplin. This isn't a surprise folks. Hell, let's go recent… How about last year in Zodiac? Three years ago in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang? Oh man is it frustrating.

Lucky enough, for those that actually like movies without comic book superheroes, Downey is an actor that doesn't plan on selling out any time soon, and that very same "USA Today" article has our first look at Downey, together with Jamie Foxx, in The Soloist, the new film from Atonement helmer Joe Wright.

In the film Downey plays Steve Lopez, a real-life "Los Angeles Times" columnist who discovers a homeless musical prodigy (Jamie Foxx) living on Skid Row. The film hits theaters November 21 from DreamWorks Pictures.

You can check out the short piece right here.

Brad, I had an argument with friends over Tropic Thunder, isn't RDJ playing a White Australian actor that is playing a Black guy in a war movie. Right. It's a movie within a movie.

  2. Yup, a movie within a movie and they end up in a real war. It looks fantastic! :)
