New Mummy 3 Pics! Bello as Evey
Jet Li has joined the production
That pic to the right is our first look at Maria Bello as Evey which was recently posted on director Rob Cohen's blog as he announces that Jet Li has finally joined the production of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The post also features the large look at Brendan Fraser as seen below as well as a pic of Michelle Yeoh and Isabella Leong hanging out on set.
The pics came with the following comment and then some:
Jet Li is finally has joined us in Montreal and the production has palpably kicked up into a higher gear. As I shoot our "trekking through the Himalayas" sequence where our heroes are searching for Shangri-la, I am madly refining the Emperor/Rick O'Connell fight with stunt co-ordinators Ku Huen Chzu (known to everyone as Dede) and Mark Southworth. It's a real contrast in styles, Brendan's and Jet's, highly balletic, powerful Wushu vs. the brutal directness of Krav Maga plus magic and shape-shifting creatures leading to the the climax aided by Luke Ford and the clash of armies overhead. I have seven days to shoot it so this will be my last entry until China. We wrap here next Thursday; then I'm off to L.A. for less than twenty-four (obstetrician and VFX meetings with D.D. and R&H) then straight to Beijing and Tian Mo, the desert three hours north of the capitol.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor hits theaters on August 1, 2008.

Maria Bello looks very bad in the role.
Definitely a different look eh? I think I will hold me ultimate judgment until the trailer only because I actually want this film to be good, or at least tolerable enough to enjoy as a dumb late night movie. My fingers are crossed.
I would have preferred they just kill off Evey's character. They could have given Rachel Weisz a nice sum of money to just come in and get killed in the opening scene if she didn't want to do another mummy movie. This could have given a nice little backstory with Rick as he tries to kill a new mummy while coping with his wife's death. Maria Bello could have been a new love interest instead of an old character. I don't care, but when I think Evey O'Connell, it's going to take an Oscar worthy performance to not get me to think about Rachel.
