Variety is reporting that New Line Cinema has acquired the remake rights to the 2004 Japanese horror flick Infection. On top of that they have brought aboard original producer Takashige Ichise along with Vertigo Entertainment principals Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

The U.S. version will be penned by Channing Gibson and will be set in an isolated hospital where the staff — stymied by mistakes and cover-ups — races to battle a deadly infection that turns out to be of supernatural origin.

Other Vertigo productions to find their way to the U.S. remake market include The Ring, The Grudge and Dark Water.
