New Trailer: Is 'Morning Glory' a Comedic Oscar Contender?

Apple has debuted the trailer for Roger Michell's upcoming comedy Morning Glory starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton, Patrick Wilson and Jeff Goldblum. Paramount is set to release the film on November 12 and while I see a lot of traditional jokes in this trailer I have high hopes it will stand out when the year is said and done, primarily because I like the cast and Michell has done some decent to good work, with Notting Hill being a so-so rom-com feature and Venus being a particularly great film. Obviously my hopes for Morning Glory are high, it's one of the many films included in my "The Contenders" section and one I have listed as a potential Best Picture nominee.
Morning Glory is a pretty straight-forward movie about a morning show that's a ratings loser that has just hired on Becky Fuller (McAdams) to hopefully turn the show around. She brings a legendary news anchor in Mike Pomeroy (Ford), teaming him with Colleen Peck (Keaton), a former beauty queen and longtime morning show personality, and things move from there. Like I said, straight-forward stuff and the jokes used in the trailer are likely to be the least interesting of the bunch as they are needed to get the herds into the theaters and not convince us of the movie's wit.
Of course, I am bring rather optimistic here, but hey, what is someone that covers movies for a living if they don't hope for the best with each one they see? I was taught my expectation limit already this week when Sex and the City 2 actually proved to be more entertaining than this weekend's other big release… Go figure…
With that, here's the trailer for Morning Glory followed by the complete synopsis. Give it a watch and let me know what you think?
From director Roger Michell ("Notting Hill," "Venus"), producer J.J. Abrams ("Felicity," "Alias," "Lost," "Star Trek"), and writer Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada," "27 Dresses"), comes "Morning Glory," a new romantic comedy set in the hilarious and dysfunctional world of morning television. Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton star along with Patrick Wilson and Jeff Goldblum.
When hard-working TV producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) is fired from a local news program, her career begins to look as bleak as her hapless love life. Stumbling into a job at "Daybreak" (the last-place national morning news show), Becky decides to revitalize the show by bringing on legendary TV anchor Mike Pomeroy (Ford). Unfortunately, Pomeroy refuses to cover morning show staples like celebrity gossip, weather, fashion and crafts – let alone work with his new co-host, Colleen Peck (Keaton), a former beauty queen and longtime morning show personality who is more than happy covering morning "news." As Mike and Colleen clash, first behind the scenes and then on the air, Becky's blossoming love affair with fellow producer, Adam Bennett (Wilson) begins to unravel – and soon Becky is struggling to save her relationship, her reputation, her job and ultimately, the show itself.

This looks delightful. This one, along with "The Kids are Alright," "The Switch" and "Going the Distance" look to be the cream of the upcoming comedy crop.
I'm sure I'm missing some, but those are the ones I'm really looking forward to.
I don't see anything more then a screenplay nod at the most for this one. Looks fun but nothing that yells contender.
P.S Was that really the best picture of Rachel McAdams you could find?
Yeah, no kidding about the McAdams pic. I thought this was a horror movie instead of a lighthearted comedy before I read the piece.
Nope, but it was a fun one to use.
Looks enjoyable, but I don't think it has many Oscar hopes (unless one of the supporting performances sticks in peoples' minds). Hard to tell with the 10 nomination system though I guess.
How can this shit be an Oscar contender?
Anyone know the name of the song and artist playing at the end of the trailer?
I don't know the song but i'm pretty sure it's natasha bedingfield
sup gilmore?
Yeah, from what I have seen it is from Natasha Bedingfield's upcoming album.
This looks like it would've been a good premise for a television series.
NO! This is definitely not oscar contender. The only slim chance is Rachel McAdams or Harrison Ford getting a nom for acting, but that is even a stretch. This screenwriter needs to think of new story ideas because this is basically "The Devil Wears Prada" on in a TV news station rather than fashion company. It doesn't even look that funny. The best comedies, NOT dramadies, are The Other Guys, Due Date, maybe The Switch, and Cyrus(which might actually be a dramady, IDK). Dinner for Schmucks is up in the air because the trailer was awful, but it does have Paul Rudd and Steve Carell. The funniest comedy so far this year is Hot Tub Time Machine.
This looks like it could be fun – "Broadcast News" crossed with "Devil Wears Prada" I love the cast!
Wow, this looks… identical to The Devil Wears Prada… Ford looks like fun, though. Perhaps.
I'm sorry. Is that…is that a joke? Where do you see an Oscar nomination coming from? It looks like fun, I'll give you that, but nowhere do I see anything more than an above average rom-com.
This actually reminds me more of "The Ugly Truth," so I can't really see what in the trailer would make it "contender" status.
How does this remind you of that film? This one is NO WAY going to be as bad as or worse than 'The Ugly Truth'!
Yea I think this may have a chance. But I doubt it. Maybe at the Golden Globes but no way at the Oscars. But I would LOVE to see Rachel McAdams get nominated for an Oscar. She is very underated.
the song is strip me by Natasha Bedingfield !!
