New 'Oldboy' Poster has a Warming Center

The following new poster for Spike Lee's Oldboy (FilmDistrict; 11/27) remake just premiered in conjunction with the New York Comic Con and while I like it, I couldn't help but make a few alterations and offer up an alternative version that I would rather see hanging on my wall rather than the option the studio chose to go with.

Have a look below and tell me which one you prefer.

Oldboy follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor's motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.

    Brads poster > studio poster.

Brad version hands you gotta start sharing you work with these marketing teams...they are missing out!

Yeah, simpler is often better - but I get it... Gotta show Brolin in there. Though just looking at it now it does kind of grow on me... I like the idea of a piece of the puzzle missing, so to speak, and that offering something else. Almost as if the poster were plastered on to a wall, and now a brick has been removed to reveal something behind it. It's a bit awkward if you concentrate on the images in relation to one another, but when I focus more so on the central image and use Brolin's previously-used pic as a secondary element/background, I rather like it.

I will likely check the remake out - just to see what Lee is bringing to the table.

I would put yours on my wall befroe the other, but if you are selling the film, you have to put Josh Brolin up there so I guess i'm ok with what they did. Though, for me, the teaser poster is still the best.

Yours could also end up as a cool wallpaper.

Just the Brolin image would work best for me.

I like the simpler direction. Here is my take: [IMG][/IMG]

I am so looking forward to this film - even while knowing, it'll suck in comparison to the original. No American studio has the guts to really remake Oldboy.

  • Django

I like both but the top one feels more thematic.

I liked the bottom one a lot more. Simpler is sometimes a lot better.

That being said, for a studio poster, the top one is pretty good.

or this one: I couldn't help it.
