New Line Preps Ice Cube's 'Ride Along'
Yet another family comedy for Cube
Ice Cube has taken a strange path to stardom moving from a gangsta rapper with "N.W.A.", to starring in Boyz 'n the Hood and Friday to suddenly playing the madcap father in family comedies such as Are We There Yet? and his latest feature doesn't sound like it is much of a diversion from the family comedies.
Variety reports Cube will star in Ride Along for New Line. Cube will play a rogue cop with a soft spot for his sister. When she reveals she's engaged to an upper-crust white psychiatrist, the cop sets out to destroy the relationship by inviting his future brother-in-law on a ride-along.
No director is attached, but the script was initially penned by Greg Coolidge with a rewrite by Steve Faber and Bob Fisher. Cube is expected to do his own rewrite and then set a director and co-star after that.
Next in line for Cube is Janky Promoters in which he stars alongside Mike Epps as a pair of shady concert promoters, self-described as "Modesto's finest," who get in over their heads when they get a shot at booking a big-name hip-hop act (an actual rapper whose deal was closing Tuesday). Complications come in the form of a pot-growing neighborhood nemesis named Mondo and Cube's character's son (Nickelodeon star Little JJ), who is under contract with the old man.

This is just tragic. Cube has truly gone soft. He claims otherwise, but his rep is thrashed as a hardcore MC. Just think, if he were to have died after Kill At Will or something, he would have been hailed as one of the greatest rappers who ever lived…and now this?
