Neil Marshall Set to 'Drive' for Universal
Adaptation of Sallis novel is also on the filmmaker's docket
Neil Marshall's Doomsday crash-landed this past weekend, and with the NCAA tournament taking up the time of most red-blooded males this weekend I don't expect it to do very well going forward. However, that isn't slowing the helmer of The Descent down any as he is not only set to write and direct the Wild West horror Sacrilege for Rogue Pictures, but he is now prepping to direct an adaptation of the James Sallis novel "Drive" with Hugh Jackman attached to star.
The script was penned by Hossein Amini and centers on a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway car driver in heists. In the book, the stuntman's already-exciting existence gets jolted when he discovers that a contract has been put out on his life.
Universal is distributing the pic and should Jackman decide to jump on board officially the project may get underway sooner than later.
The film would mark Marshall's first non-genre studio feature and he told Variety, "This is something I haven't done before, and I've wanted to bring a British sensibility to an L.A. shoot and a scorched classic film noir concept… Hoss is a fantastic writer, and he's written three amazing car chases in the film. He's turned them into dramatic scenes as opposed to the usual crash, bang, wallop. I would like to be shooting it this summer."
Sounds good to me.
