New Release Dates for 'Need for Speed', 'Secret Service', 'Baggage Claim' and More

Plus This is the End avoids a face off against Man of Steel

I already mentioned Fox Searchlight had set a December 27 release for Steve McQueen's Twelve Years a Slave, which is one film expected to play at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but several more upcoming films have also found a place on the release calendar or been moved around a bit.

Dreamworks moved the upcoming video game adaptation Need for Speed from February 7 to March 14, 2014 where it will open one week ahead of The Muppets... Again! and Divergent.

Sony has decided to release the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-directed comedy This is the End two days earlier on June 12, giving it a two day jump start on Zack Snyder's Superman movie Man of Steel. Probably a good idea.

Next, 20th Century Fox has greenlit and dated Matthew Vaughn's next film, The Secret Service, setting it for a November 14, 2014 release. The film is based on the comic from "Kick-Ass" creators, Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, and follows a veteran secret agent who leads a young protege into the shadowy business.

The Weinstein Co. has moved the upcoming release of Kon-Tiki, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Oscar. They will be releasing the English-language version of the Norwegian film on April 26, one week later than originally planned.

Finally, David E. Talbert's comedy Baggage Claim at Fox Searchlight has moved from October 25 to September 27. The comedy stars Paula Patton as a flight attendant determined to get engaged before her sister's wedding. So she uses her job as a way to meet men. The supporting cast includes Adam Brody, Djimon Hounsou, Christina Milian, Taye Diggs, Trey Songz and Jill Scott.

Brad, i'm reasonably sure that Maleficent is due out on July 2, not March 14.

You're absolutely right. I had it wrong. Fixed.

Wouldn't Secret Service be up against Nolan's Interstellar on Interstellar's second weekend? I don't think S.S. will stay there for long.

It's been fun to comment on this site. I just want to thank you all for the good conversations. I read that I won't be able to comment from tomorrow on. Keep the conversations interesting though! I'll still be around reading them along with the content on the site.

Great job Brad! Keep it up! Can't wait to read the Cannes coverage!

How the hell can they make a movie out of Need For Speed. It's a racing game for crying out loud!
