MTV Movie Awards on June 3rd

Maybe the MTV Awards can make me happy this year.

Considering we covered just about every angle of the 2006 Oscars I have refrained from writing an opinion article because I thought it would be overkill, but I have managed to fit a few snide remarks in here and there, but once I received the press release announcing that the MTV Movie Awards will be taking place on Saturday, June 3rd at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA I realized that this may be the first year I agree with MTV more than I agree with the Academy.

Most of the time the MTV Movie Awards are a joke and I think the have gotten worse and worse as the years go by, but this year I may actually be happier with MTV's choices than I was with the Academy. This is obviously a stretch since the MTV Movie Awards are hardly tolerable, but you never know. I guess we can always hope Jessica Alba shows up with a see-thru top on again.

Nominees for the 2006 MTV Movie Awards will be announced later this spring as they are chosen through a national poll of MTV and MTV2 viewers.

Hosted by incomparable Jimmy Fallon, the 2005 MTV Movie Awards attracted some of the biggest names in Hollywood to honor the year’s best movies. Napoleon Dynamite and Mean Girls were the big winners, each taking home three golden popcorn statuettes. Lindsay Lohan nabbed "Best Female Performance" for an earnest teen adapting to the social perils of a new school in the hit comedy Mean Girls, and Leonardo DiCaprio scored the win for "Best Male Performance" for his role as eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes in the biopic The Aviator. With typical MTV fanfare, the biggest names in Hollywood turned out for the show including performances by Eminem, Foo Fighters, and Mariah Carey, as well as appearances by Tom Cruise, Hilary Swank, Nicole Kidman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Connelly, Johnny Knoxville, Katie Holmes, Hilary Duff, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Simpson, and The Rock among others.
