'Thor: The Dark World', 'Her', 'Neighbors' and the MPAA Picks on 'Philomena' in Today's Ratings Bulletin

MPAA Ratings for Thor: The Dark World, Her, Philomena and Neighbors
Latest MPAA Ratings: BULLETIN NO: 2295

Marvel sticks to its track record and delivers a PG-13 rating for Thor: The Dark World, which saw its review embargo break earlier today and it seems it's yet another harmless entry in The Avengers franchise.

The other three releases -- Her, Philomena and Neighbors -- all received an R rating, but the Weinstein Co. doesn't seem too keen on the R for Philomena as they will attempt to appeal the rating with the C.A.R.A. board. I saw the film in Toronto and can't remember what language may have called for an R, but I can only assume the word "fuck" is said more than a couple times. I'm an adult, so, I didn't count.

Reviews are mostly positive so far which makes this potentially enjoyable for me because I did not like the first Thor one bit.

How much more would you anticipate Thor if it just got a hard-R rating out of the blue?

Much much more, and who wouldn't? And why are studios so hell-bent on getting PG-13's anyway, is it just because parents of America won't let their teens watch R-rated movies? Mine did.

      • The Dog-Biting Man

I am as curious by why people hate PG-13 rated movies. That is like bashing on John Frankenheimer's THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE while thinking the remake is as better. Speaking of accusing the PG-13 rating of financially killing any remake of any R-rated movie, I am as puzzled by how could that rating do so to the remake of TOTAL RECALL. And that puzzles me because the remake of CONAN THE BARBARIAN became as a financial flop and no non-NC-17-lover did any thing of making it as sucessful. The box-office failiure of CONAN THE BARBARIAN probably sets me free to indicate the R rating financially killed THE FRIGHTENERS.

Not really because I know parents will take their little kids since an Avenger is in it... why should superheroes be rated R anyways? Only Wolverine, Blade, Punisher, Ghost Rider and Batman are suited for that.

      • Walter

True, Batman would be an interesting R rating, it will never happen but it'd be interesting. As for Wolverine and ghost rider they should just be R, Punisher is already and Blade is I think.

        • The Dog-Biting Man

I do not see how Batman is as an R-rated character.

No surprise with Thor. I anticipate that like Iron Man 3 I will enjoy it, maybe even give it a second viewing and that's about it.

Neighbors sounds like it will be fun

I could care less about Philomena being Rated R but I think it's the dumbest thing for a film to be purely Rated R for language. Thirteen year olds hear more fucks in one day than any other age group. Tsk Tsk Tsk.

    • RBBrittain

Some 13-year-olds may actually DO it more times in a day...

  • IngmarTheBergman

Glad to see an R-rating for "Her".

Lol they are all R except Thor

might want to tell the people at movie insider that thor: The Dark World is going to be PG-13, they freakin added thor the dark world being rated r. i won't have a problem if it was r rated, but i know marvel won't do any r rated films yet for some reason, that's one reason why we haven't had a deadpool movie
