The Ring 2 (2005)

If you are expecting a simple revisiting of the first Ring film you won't exactly get it, but by the time you are 30 minutes into The Ring 2 you are going to wish it was.

Rachel Keller (Watts) and her son Aidan (Dorfman) have left their home in Seattle and hopefully the dreaded nightmare that was Samara Morgan behind as they have set up a new life in Astoria, Oregon, but you can never really run from a specter as determined as Miss Morgan can you?

Keller is now working for a small newspaper and Aidan is trying to adapt to his new life, but when a couple of teenagers get themselves mixed up in a mysterious video tape all hell breaks loose and the wicked Samara is not only out to kill this time as a dose of the Exorcist creeps into this follow-up.

As horror movies are seemingly changing from the psychological freak fests of yore movie studios are now depending on films in which their principal characters are running from computer generated characters and the final fate of the victims are left to your imagination. Now you are only welcome to visit the aftermath of a scary scene in order to get a fright from a rolling head or another quick flash of the CG villain and Ring 2 doesn't deviate from that script, not for a moment.

Unfortunately, where a decent storyline falls apart is in its delivery as it seems to drag on and on and on until you are just wanting to yell at the screen, "Get it over with already!"

The plot twists and turns that made the original Ring film so good are gone and the creepy girl that comes out of the TV is no longer unique as she is now a simple afterthought leaving audience members with an empty feeling in their stomachs leaving the theater wanting more.

The Ring 2 was a good idea in theory but poor execution makes this a film you will not want to go see, unless you are looking for an excuse to tell your friends how much better the first one was or repeat the old saying, "Sequels suck!"
