SYNOPSIS:
She never wanted a house and she never wanted a husband. But more than anything, she wanted a child. And not just any child, she wanted an exceptional one. When artificial insemination fails, she engages in many anonymous liaisons with a wide variety of fathers, equaling nothing but memories and a miscarriage. But when a traveling businessman passes through her life one night, she conceives a boy and names him Paul. But to her, the child will always be her little Loverboy.

Sybil and Marty were her parents, passionate in their love for each other but indifferent to their daughter in life. The only thing they leave her is a small fortune and some cryptic advice, "It would do well to find a passion." She creates a wonderful, magical world for her and Paul, a world filled with books, music, endless games, and bottomless devotion. "Has ever a mother loved a child more?" she wonders as they play spy on the strangers from behind their heavy, lace curtains.

She knows she’s not like the other mothers, she doesn’t want to be. But now she has a house and, when a local named Mark comes into their life, she might have a husband too. The world she created is changing and life outside begins to beckon to the boy when the school year begins. Her efforts to keep that small world confined become increasingly frantic and ultimately tragic.

Based on the celebrated novel Loverboy by Victoria Redel, this moving drama of a neglected daughter who becomes a possessive mother is an emotional journey into the heart and mind of a woman who loved too much.
