SYNOPSIS:
Inside Deep Throat examines the cultural impact of the 1972 adult film Deep Throat. Generally considered the most profitable film of all time, Deep Throat was routinely released in a midtown Manhattan adult theater in June 1972 but soon became the flashpoint for an unprecedented social and political firestorm.
The sexually explicit film, barely one hour long and produced for less than $25,000, unexpectedly became a cultural phenomenon at the moment when the nation’s movements of sexual liberation, equal rights and questioning authority demanded a combustible focus.
More than 30 years later, this new documentary examines the sexual revolution, war on pornography and the chasm between the modest intentions of the filmmakers behind Deep Throat and the unforeseen, ironic impact and legacy that their film left on society.
