Production Weekly is reporting that writer/director Eli Roth has planned a September shoot for Hostel 2 as the production will make its way to Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and other locations around the Czech Republic.
Roth told PW, “We’re also going to shoot some other places, like Rome, and kind of expand just a little bit it outside. And if they let me back into Slovakia, maybe Slovakia.” The site also reported that some scenes will be shot at Barrandov Studios.
Roth went on to say that Hostel 2 will be darker than the original if you can believe that. “The first Hostel is a journey into hell that starts off fun,” he said. “Part 2 is going to start off scary and stay creepy all the way through. I want it to feel like the movie is going to pick up on the next cut, as if you could watch the two movies back-to-back and it would be a three-hour movie.”
On top of Hostel 2, Roth also confirmed his plans to direct the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Cell for the Weinstein Co. and production on that is slated for Spring 2007.
Hostel 2 is currently slated for a January 5, 2007 release and it focuses on three girls who are studying in Italy for the summer and they get lured back to a lot of familiar places. It turns out that the Slovakian stopover is actually part of a chain and you’ll see the ins and outs of the whole organization and how they get people and kill them. Hostel 2 starts immediately where the first film left off.
The first Hostel flick also released in early january to the tune of $47 million at the domestic box-office. Considering its $4.8 million dollar budget and its $32 million from the foreign market it is considered quite a success.
