Based on actual events the film follows the story of broadcaster Edward R. Murrow's on-air confrontations with Sen. Joseph McCarthy, which helped bring down the infamous politician.

The movie will highlight Murrow (Strathairn) and his producer David Friendly (Clooney) during the historic confrontations of the House of Un-American Activities Committee's anti-Communist hearings.
