First, I'm a big sci fi fan, G.I. Joe fan, comic book fan,a fire fighter, work for the military(fitness coordinator),writer(writng a graphic novel now) and movie fan who analyzes movies well. But I know what a summer blockbuster based off a cartoon is usually going to look like. I went into the movie expecting it not to be like the comic book or cartoon and i had a great time at the movies watching it. It was fun and full of action. I didn't expect Oscar performance or seamless special effects. But I am recommending this movie to all who just go to the movies sometimes just to see and exciting movie. None of these movies are ever like the comic book or novel. This was/is a live action cartoon with just enough "substance" to expand their market(women in particular). Get your popcorn and soda and be prepared to enjoy yourself if you are not there to just pick the movie a part and miss the fun.

it was also one of my better movie experiences of the year i remember at transformers there were two kids sitting behind critiqing the movie and saying how cool that one car was and how hot they thought megan fox was in other words they wouldn't shut the hell up the entire movie but gi joe was different the kids were actually quiet and no one talked the entire movie and everyone in the theatre seemed to enjoy it and have a great time watching so i have nothing bad to say about gi joe

@<a href="#comment-23632" rel="nofollow">Patricia</a>: You're stronger than me, my crush on Channing Tatum made me see it. But I won't be seeing "Fighting", so I guess we're even. You're right about "Step Up", he was the only good thing on that...

As for G.I. Joe, I had fun. It was stupid. But I had fun. Loved the Paris chase sequence. Liked how Joseph Gordon-Levitt overacted using only his voice - he must've had fun. Since "Mysterious Skin", I've been watching anything he's in. He hasn't disappointed me yet.

One could ask: "What about Van Helsing? It's also awful-in-a-funny-way, did you like it?". No, I didn't. So I suppose this argument of "silly fun" is very subjective...

Someone asked what I was expecting from this movie: I'd have been happy with Transformers 2 level rockitude. I'm one of the 3 who regular this site that liked it. And, to Brad: why would a dude post another link to a pirate site? I guess your site's hitting the big time.

There is a reason film critics have their jobs watching films as opposed to making films. A look at their reccomendations shows they would be out of the film making business quickly if someone was crazy enough to let them in the door in the first place. The elitist conceit that they are smarter than other people just shows that our wonderful free market system ,where people are paid in accordance with how much they make other people happy, works great. This film is going to make a lot of people happy, and it's makers will be paid accordingly.

I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't great but it wasn't the all out feces that I feared. I agree with an earlier poster who said that what makes this better than Transformers 2 is that the movie-with it's forgettable dialogue, acting, humor, and the like-didn't make a concerted effort to insult you.

I'd give it a 5 out of 10. Bad acting and bad special effects. But it was sometimes exiting.

@<a href="#comment-23630" rel="nofollow">Duke Time</a>: I win the prize! I'm #19.

No, I didn't go to see it. And I won't, nor rent it eventually either. That despite the fact that I have a girly crush on Channing Tatum. He is just so darn down home cute and charming. I've liked him since "Step Up," even though I thought he was the only thing good about it. (Sorry, Jenna.) I do so love a man who can dance.

It looks like the people who made G. I Joe knew their audience. It's making heaps of money. I'm glad for Channing if nothing else since"Fighting" was another horrible film . I still have faith in Channing because he did a fine job in "Stop-Loss," especially that scene toward the end when a tear rolls down his face as his character of Steve confronts Brandon.

Get yea to an acting class, Channing.

Hey, the review is very harsh. Get a grip, it's about toys????

I watched it on Thursday night and thought it was fantastic. I would give it 8.5 out of 10 and why you may ask especially after the bad reviews (critics get over it, so the studio didn't let you see the reviews beforehand so what, let the audience decide)?

Well, firstly I understand it's about toys/cartoons/comics not some really deep movie. I believe when you go to the pictures you go to escape and just enjoy the ride this film did just that, try remembering something called fun especially in this present climate.

The film title and trailers suggested that it will not win any oscars on acting so leave Channing Tatum and the rest alone. Seriously, why are people going on about the acting I just don't know?

Actually, I thought Channing Tatum did a good job as Duke. Hey you work with whatever script you are given plus have you seen the cartoons, it's not about the acting is it?

The cinema that I went to was packed and people were impressed with Marlon Wayans too. He was funny but not over the top just right. I think the fanboys and fangirls will complain as hell (something to do) but still support the G.I. Joe's because that's what they do best, complain but still watch plus it was a good film.

Just another reminder that it is based on toys/cartoons/comics is not suppose to be perfect but hell it was a popcorn delight for all ages.

G.I. Joe is pure cheese and that's what I expected from a G.I. Joe movie and anything else and you are mad. It stayed true to the cartoons, so I am laughing more at the haters of this movie than anything else, they obviously haven't watched the cartoons or know the history of G.I. Joe.

The various websites/critics made it sound like it was the worst film on the planet and it was not it was better than most blockbusters this year. Just goes to show form your own opinions on G.I. Joe for sure so go WATCH. Don't just comment that it was bad without actually seeing it first and take into account the age range it was aiming at and the history of the show.

I tell you what Channing Tatum and the rest of the cast who have shown their faces to support this movie world-wide deserve their reward. Whatever you think of Channing Tatum and I think for a guy who has only been in the business for me thinks approximately 6 years as he was previously a model he has done really well in promoting this film and will benefit in the end whether you liked his performance or not and now you know his name.

I don't know how to explain it but there is a star quality about him (it's not just about his looks). Some people might think hell no when it comes to him and worst actor on the planet but in that case, why are major directors like Oliver Stone wanting to work with him, there must be a reason?

Post 19: Why you taking this film so seriously (I bet you watched it)... By the way, I don't feel sorry for the studio for watching this movie. I don't care about the politics of this movie I just want to watch a fun entertaining film for a couple of hours without thinking about major issues outside and this film delivers that.

Conclusion not a perfect movie (what do people expect it's G.I. Joe) but a better blockbuster than most this year - Go Joe – sequel!

Seriously, knowing is half the battle! Just try and relax for couple of hours.....

Wow! Reading some of these comments...people are really ready to sink their money into an indulgence of poorly made, very thin entertainment. It's amazing.

There have always been cheesy, poorly scripted, even more poorly acted films. But once upon a time it cost a dime to see them. I'm going to really date myself now and say that I paid a quarter to get into a film when I was a child. And when I turned 12 and had to begin to pay full price, it was 50 cents. That's the kind of money to sink into a bad film. And I guess with the cost of sporting events, cable television, satellite radio, and high speed internet access, a film is still a bargain. But I'm not ready to spend my time, or my money, at such load of "ey, it could have been worse." It's not like we don't have a selection. Personally I'd rather see guinea pigs as federal agents. Or better yet, rent a really, really good film.

Just a note, I read that this film cost $175 million dollars to produce. Tack on the expenses of flying the cast all over the world for promotion, the trailer being dropped all over for advertising, etc. and you're talking alot of money for such a poor, poor result. That's it. All you viewers just feel sorry for the studio and want to give to charity by funding this load of patootie. How sweet.

That's it. All you viewers just feel sorry for the studio and want to give to charity by funding this load of patootie. How sweet.

I was pleasantly surprised by Gi-Joe, it wasn't the best, but it was more than passable from my point of view. Acting, dialogue, and humor was mediocre, but at least it wasn't "in your face" insulting like Revenge of the Fallen.

Brad I think you are being a little to harsh on this movie. I mean yes the dialogue and acting is AWFUL especially from Channing Tatum, but since I thought this would be a bad movie from the start I was actually suprised at how much I really enjoyed it. Strangely enough after seeing it it was then I realized how bad T2 was compared to it. I thought it was a really fun movie for the most part.

imho, it was better than Transformers 2. Then again, that statement is not really a ringing endorsement.

I thought the film was good. Destro, the Baroness, Duke, General Hawk, Scarlett,
the fighting between Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow was awesome.
Thought the whole Ripcord/ Sacarlett angle was lame and smelled of PC.
Didn't Scarlett originally like Duke. Now it's the Baroness who likes Duke( movie will explain their history, Cobra Commander also is part of their history) It may surprise you. As a GI JOE fan of the 1980's cartoon, I'd say overall the film is GREAT.
I thought the guy who played the character of McMullen/Destro did a great job. Hope he returns for the sequel. I really think the next two films will be epic.
THE CRITICS WHO DISSED THIS FILM SUCK. IT IS A GOOD FILM. LOTS OF FUN.

I know how to make this movie ROCK! The studio should withdraw it from theaters today and...wait for it...REPLACE ALL THE ACTION SEQUENCES WITH CLEARLY MORE REALISTIC SCENES FROM "Team America: World Police!" "America! Fuck yeah!" No, seriously...

I suppose dumb fun can be taken in different ways, personally I enjoy it, and if I enjoy a movie that is meant to be enjoyed and nothing else than I can live with it.

To be honest, I'm not sure. He was a producer on the film, but I don't know how much of a hand he put into it.

Just got back from seeing it, and yes, Sebastian, the CGI was horrible. I hate to say it, but more realistic CGI in Transformers 2. What did they spend all that money on? I will rate the film overall better than Transformers 2 (which I hated) mainly because they at least try to make a backstory and I found myself laughing more at the jokes and it seemed like effort was made not to insult us. I liked the back story of Cobra Commander and Duke and the Baroness. I disagree with Brad, because it felt like I was watching a live action version of the cartoon. And it breezed by quickly, so I didn't look at my watch during the film. I wanted a bit more with the Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes back story (They were my two favorite characters from the past, as I believe they were most people's favorites) and a little bit more originality on the plot. Plus, the "secret" plot you can see coming from a thousand miles away, so it did little to surprise me. I think I enjoyed it more only because of my hatred of Transformers 2 and that led me into the theater with very low expectations. At least, I can thank Michael Bay for that.

I find it so weird that you didn't mention the bad use of CGI. That's one of the things that I most realize. Sometimes it looked even fake

I knew Sommers lost something after watching the most recent film in The Mummy trilogy. That was one of the worst films i have ever seen and after the trailers for this one...i was not expecting much better from him.

You know that when they were making this film that they thought the action and the manjoyment of the stars would make anything else, like a good script and logical flow of events, superfluous. This film was VERY expensive, wasn't it? Wonder if they'd make that same mistake in today's economy.

And you stole my comment about Joseph Gordon-Levitt writing it into his contract that his face be hidden in this disasterous film. Fortunately for his career, his "500 Days of Summer" is front and center right now.

But as bad as this is, I do think it will be a feather in Channing Tatum's cap. Not for the film, but for the way he has soldiered on all over the world promoting it despite what he knows will be said after it is seen. Studios like team players like that. Those of the performers who have been hiding (with the exception of our dear JGL) are compounding a mistake with another one.
