'Mongol' Helmer Set for 'Last Photograph'
That must be one impressive picture
While Mongol was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2008 I wasn't necessarily a huge fan of the film that I felt was extremely lacking. Nonetheless, it gave Russian co-writer and director Sergei Bodrov some worldwide attention and now he is set to go Hollywood and direct a film for Warner Bros.
The film is The Last Photograph and it was developed from an original idea by Watchmen helmer Zack Snyder with a script written by Kurt Johnstad who co-wrote 300. At one time it was thought Snyder would direct but he will be busy with the animated Guardians of Ga'Hoole and his "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns" feature Sucker Punch which recently added Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone to its cast.
As for The Last Photograph, it is a drama that follows two men and the photograph that inspires them to travel to war-torn Afghanistan. The film is on the fast track at WB and likely to go into production in 2009.
