Miyazaki's 'Ponyo' Gets U.S. Release Date
Some quality animation is coming stateside
My experience with animated film director Hayao Miyazaki was seriously limited until earlier this year when I made a point to watch Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro and to no surprise I was consistently impressed, especially with Spirited Away and Totoro. This made the anticipation for news regarding his upcoming feature Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea all the more electric and now according to AWN the wait won't be much longer.
The site reports Walt Disney Pictures has announced an August 14 release date for the film that hit Japanese theaters all the way back on July 19, 2008. The film was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Littler Mermaid" and is described as an animated adventure centered on a 5-year-old boy (Frankie Jonas) and his relationship with a goldfish princess named Ponyo (Noah Cyrus) who longs to become human.
Making up the English language voice cast are Noah Cyrus, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin, Betty White and Frankie Jonas.

Oh, Miyazaki! He may be the best director alive. All of his movies are brilliant. I strongly recommend "Porco Rosso" – the Casablanca of animated movies.
