I am sure most of you read about the behind-the-scenes dealings regarding the rights for the hundreds of hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage from Michael Jackson's preparation for what would have been his massive upcoming concert tour. Well, Sony Pictures Entertainment ended up with the rights and is set to release the footage as a feature film titled This is It for an October 30 release.

Everything was captured in high definition with state-of-the-art digital sound as the late singer was preparing for his concert series in London. The film, which will also offer select sequences in 3-D, will provide a unique career retrospective and feature interviews with some of Jackson's closest friends and creative collaborators. The majority of the film's footage was shot in June, 2009 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California and The Forum in Inglewood, California, as Jackson prepared for "This Is It," the series of fifty concerts Jackson planned to present at the O2 Arena in London.

There is no specific word on who will take directorial duties, but it can only be assumed it will be Kenny Ortega, the director of the upcoming Footloose remake, since he was the director of and Jackson's creative partner on the This Is It concert.

It is said additional information will be made available in the coming weeks at michaeljackson.com.

The footage featured above is the only footage from the final concert rehearsal to be released by AEG.

Sony paid $60M for the footage, FYI.

    $60 million? That's crazy.

Brad, what'd I say to get my comments deleted this time? I didn't attack anybody…well, maybe MJ, but I mean, c'mon…

I have to say, I'm totally fine with the deletion of comments but I'm not a fan of the posts disappearing altogether. Most sites simply replace the text with a 'comment has been deleted by administrator' type message.
