McShane Sees 'The Dark is Rising'
New fantasy pic with the ex-Deadwood star
Variety is reporting that ex-"Deadwood" star Ian McShane is set to star in the fantasy pic The Dark is Rising for 20th Century Fox and director David Cunningham.
The film is based on a five-book series by Susan Cooper and "The Dark Is Rising" focuses on a youth, Will Stanton (Alexander Ludwig), who discovers at age 11 that he's the last of a group of immortals — the Old Ones — dedicated to fighting a growing presence of dark forces. He comes to the realization he's charged with saving the world.
McShane will play Merriman Lyon, one of the Old Ones who serves as Stanton's mentor and shield.
Frances Conroy is also set to star in the film which begins production this month in Romania from the John Hodge script.
