Marvel Updates: Favreau Directing 'Avengers' and a 'Fantastic Four' Remake?
This should hold you over for the weekend
Marvel Studios appears to be preparing for a multi-year multiplex takeover as it establishes nine-picture deals with the likes of Sam Jackson (and possibly Scarlett Johansson) and recently set the geek world on fire by announcing new release dates for Spider-Man 4 (May 6, 2011), The Avengers (May 4, 2012), The First Avenger: Captain America (Jul. 22, 2011) and Thor (Jun. 17, 2011). Yes folks, fanboys are so rabid they even get excited over films that are over three years away, which is why news Jon Favreau may go from directing Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010) to directing The Avengers in a new report from a Marvel insider over at Ain't It Cool News:
Avengers is delayed a year because of financing issues but also because the plan is for Favreau to helm it. Everybody here loves the guy and he wants to do it, but it would have been impossible for him to do before the date change given his Iron Man 2 commitments. Also partly the reason why he agreed to do the Stark sequel on such an accelerated schedule was so he could get given first dibs on this. It would still be a punishing schedule for him, so hes not firmly confirmed yet, but he is certainly the presumptive director at this point.
Favreau has production on Iron Man 2 underway as cast members such as Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have recently been confirmed and an image from the set recently hit the web. But there is still more news from the Marvel Universe as AICN's source didn't stop there.
Word hast it the casting rumors surrounding Alexander Skarsgard as the lead for Thor are true and there is a possibility his father, Stellan, would have a cameo appearance as Odin in the film as well. On top of that the talk of Josh Hartnett as a likely contender for the role of the baddie Loki is apparently true as well as director Kenneth Branagh is a "big fan of the Othello adaptation O where Hartnett played Iago who is very similar character wise to how he sees Loki."
Other superhero news making the round recently included talk of a Fantastic Four remake to which the AICN insider also responds saying:
Fox is serious about doing remakes of Daredevil and FF. They have to make new movies with these characters every few years because otherwise the options will revert to us. This point is kinda obvious but Im not sure people realize it –I haven't seen anybody pointing it out anywhere. The mood around here is pretty negative about Rothman's potential to execute these properties properly, (I'm sure you know why it might be particularly negative at the moment) but we are all hoping his recent promotion will mean hes kept away from direct control of these movies.
Whatever you may think about superhero movies and comic book adaptations they certainly aren't going anywhere.

Seems weird for some reason to have a remake of Fantastic four, not sure why but I do know a remake of it could have a lot of potential. As for Daredevil….im one of the few people who dont think it was that bad, I accually thought it was fairly enjoyable.
Daredevil desperately deserves a re-do. It has some of the best writing and storytelling of any comic and they spent that on a Bennifer 2.0 vehicle. Lame.
Fantastic 4, couldn't care less.
Nice to hear Favreau is on for Avengers, he did really well in bringing a fun yet functional Iron Man to the screen and he seems like the guy for the job.
Those crazy fanboys!
I really didnt get them until I found myself going crazy in excitement over the Hobbit movie. That's over 3 years away! But that is about as close as I'll come to fanboy craziness.
I liked Daredevil (esp the R rated cut) it was just before it's time and really wanted another one esp if bullseye came back
I loved Daredevil. There were a few corny moments that could have been eliminated but i think Affleck was exceptional in the role and would hate to see anyone else play the man without fear.
The only problem with reboots is another film of setting up the origins, though if theres a way round that (like they did with the 2nd Hulk film) I'd rather see them do it that way. We could have some different villians used then.
