Marsden is Evil in 'Anchorman 2', 'Star Trek 2' Klingons and Kitsch Takes 'Exit 147'

Plus more on Peter Dinklage's role in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'

James Marsden1.) The Twittersphere got pretty excited yesterday upon the announcement James Marsden would be joining the cast of Anchorman: The Legend Continues where he'll play the rival news anchor and nemesis to Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell). Filming is scheduled to begin next month in Atlanta fora December 20, 2013 release. [Deadline]

2.) Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star and Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) is attached to direct an adaptation of Michael Armour's upcoming Depression-era dramatic novel "The Road Home". The story focuses on Creek, a war-scarred rancher on the Central California coast who finds himself entangled in scandal when he is asked to investigate the brutal murder of a local man, a case that local police have swept under the rug. Cooper will write the script. [Deadline]

3.) Taylor Kitsch is done licking his Battleship and John Carter wounds and is reportedly attached to star in Exit 147, an upcoming serial killer thriller centered on a man driving across the desert at night, arrested by a small town sheriff (Kitsch) and held captive as part of his own sadistic game. Red Riding Trilogy helmer Julian Jarrold is attached to direct. The screenplay was written by Travis Milloy (Pandorum). [BD]

4.) Talk surrounding Peter Dinklage's role in X-Men: Days of Future Past has gone from speculation over him being a completely CGI character -- namely the dwarf member of Alpha Flight, Puck -- or Boliver Trask, the leader of the mutant hunting Sentinel army. Well, if director Bryan Singer's words are any indication, that latter seems more likely:

He's not going to be a CGI character, he'll be himself. Not that he'll be playing Peter Dinklage, he'll be playing this character. It's not a shy character. He's just such a phenomenal actor; I'm a huge fan of Peter's and "Game of Thrones". He was my first choice and I was really happy [about the casting]. It's so funny to talk to him because he does that impeccable accent [on "Game of Thrones"] and then you talk to him and he's this guy from New Jersey.

X-Men: Days of Future Past begins filming in mid-April in Montreal and will hit theaters on July 18, 2014. [IGN]

Klingon in Star Trek into Darkness5.) Finally, J.J. Abrams has confirmed what we essentially already knew, that Klingons would play a part in the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. Speaking with MTV he said, "Their role in this is definitely adversarial and you'll see how that plays out... We had shot some stuff [in the first film] that had Klingons and we cut the scene. It's a deleted scene on the DVD. But they're back in this one." Abrams already teased the Klingons in the new film in a brief MTV snippet which you can see here along with comparisons to the deleted scene from the first Star Trek film.

Well they've already done evil Romulans, so the Klingons are the next logical enemy. Of course, Khan would also be a great choice.

I'm very pleased with the casting of Peter Dinklage, he is one of my favorite actors. Glad to see that Bryan Singer isn't frightened by his short stature and trying to go CG with his performance. Tyrion Lannister may be small, but he is no less dangerous because of it.

Not sure if Taylor Kitsch will be able to resurrect his career as a leading man. Remember Orlando Bloom? They tried to make him into a big star. Then Kingdom of Heaven and Elizabethtown underperformed...goodbye Mr. Bloom.

I am very keen to learn more about Leo DiCaprio's new Depression-era flick. Still shocked that he doesn't have an Oscar decorating his mantle.

    Thems the facts

James Marsden is always a delight to watch onscreen. But will he be back for Days of Future Past now that he has been cast in Anchorman 2?
