Maria Bello Replaces Weisz in 'Mummy 3'!

This doesn't make much sense...

Maria Bello has blonde hair. Rachel Weisz has black hair.

Maria Bello is an American from Norristown, Pennsylvania. Rachel Weisz is a Brit from London, England.

Now that you know those two facts please tell me how you replace Weisz with Bello in the upcoming sequel The Mummy 3.

The news is brought to us from Variety that that is just the case as Bello will join Brendan Fraser, Luke Ford, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh in the Rob Cohen-directed film for Universal Pictures as Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell, the adventuress played in the first two films by Weisz.

Now I have nothing against Bello at all, I actually think she is a great actress, but this makes no sense to me. Weisz declined to reprise her role for a reason and I can guarantee you it wasn't because of money. My guess, and it seems rather obvious, is that the script sucks. So, why not bring someone in to rewrite the Miles Millar and Alfred Gough script so that Weisz may consider playing the role? Or, better yet, if she is dead set against returning rewrite the script to not include the character. These are easy solutions, but of course they cost money. However, they are solutions that will most likely bring you a movie people will enjoy more. Just think how good Spider-Man 3 could have been had someone been brought in to rewrite some of that shitty dialogue.

The Mummy 3 brings the O'Connells and their full-grown son (Ford) to the forbidden tombs of China and the Himalayas, where they battle a shape-shifting mummy, a former Chinese emperor (Li) cursed by a wizard (Yeoh).

I am sure Bello will be fine in the role and I may even enjoy the movie, but the fact that Weisz declined to return sticks in my craw (yeah, I used the word craw).

The Mummy 3 is tentative scheduled to release July 18, 2008.

    Hah.

Brad. I've read the script, its horrible. No storyline, pure action. Which, is in the vein of the series but there is need of a storyline. Anyway, your making a perfectly good deal out of this. I'm just as pist if not more. Rachel Wiesz had this movie made for her, her role isn't to big but not small. Jee'z.

I've read the script, it's NOT horrible. If you liked part one, you'll like the new one. It's typical of the Mummy/Raiders type vein of story. I don't know if what I read makes it in the film, but it was a real fun ride. There's all kinds of adventure from China to India and it felt like a great continuation of the series. I was not a fan of M2… but if what I read makes it to the screen it was a fun pop-cultured ride. I think Maria Bello is a good actress, but I don't know about her playing Evy. They supposedly went through many casting choices, I can only imagine her chemistry with Brandon was good. I hope she can do a good English accent.

  3. Honestly, when I first saw The Mummy I hated it, but I have grown to love both The Mummy films and hate The Scorpion King.

The plotline I am hearing for The Mummy 3 sounds great to me and with Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li I am pumped even more, but when Weisz says no to coming back and they actually replace her it bothers me a lot. Not to mention the director… I will just leave that one alone.

I want popcorn action and a decent story. If that happens I will be happy, so my fingers are crossed.

Its hard to tell if Scorpiotism is on drugs or not.

If you can honestly sit there and tell me that the action wasnt overblown, the dialog was s**t, and the characters undeveloped then you truely are a blind bat or your opinion is vastly challenged by just seeing some action seqeunce. Action doesn't make a movie smart one. Story and Dialog do and this movie has niether. Before you go off making comments and saying this movie will be "All that and some cake" re-read the damn script and if you still think its good. I reccomend AA vastly.

Oh, and Brad, If you'd like the script. I don't mind sending it over.

  6. Nah, I stay clear of scripts… try to go in as fresh as I can, which is sometimes difficult running this site. :)
