A Little News Concerning Peter Berg's Involvement in 'Dune'

Yup, he is still doing it...

Variety is proving they are slowly becoming an antiquated means for film information as they bring news that Peter Berg will direct an adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" for Paramount Pictures despite the fact that the news was originally reported by MTV back in December 2007 when Berg told MTV he is a big fan of the Frank Herbert classic and that while he’s "a big fan of [David] Lynch," he believes "[Lynch's] interpretation left the door wide open for a remake."

The Variety article simply keeps the fire alive as they report the project is out to writers with the producers looking for a faithful adaptation of the Hugo- and Nebula Award-winning book. The filmmakers consider its theme of finite ecological resources particularly timely.

I have still not watched the original Lynch version despite owning it on HD DVD, but I am sure I will check it out before Berg's version hits screens. Especially since I don't think this version is going to hit the screen any time soon.

Herbert's 1965 novel is described as a sweeping, futuristic tale set on the remote desert planet Arrakis, which produces the interstellar empire's sole source of the spice Melange — used for distant space travel. An empirewide power struggle ensues over the control of the spice.
