I can't help but assume a Mariah Carey original song for a Disney film, in this case Oz the Great and Powerful, will be a potential contender for Best Original Song at the Oscars next year and while it is only February, it doesn't hurt to speculate.
That said, today you get to sample the new track, which is titled "Almost Home" and will be available on iTunes on Tuesday, February 19 and will have a David LaChapelle-directed music video arriving soon enough.
Carey co-wrote the track with Simone Porter, Justin Gray, Lindsey Ray. You can listen to a sample directly below.
Oz the Great and Powerful hits theaters in 3-D on March 8.
Disney's fantastical adventure Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot--fame and fortune are his for the taking--that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity--and even a bit of wizardry--Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Can't tell much about the song from this short snippet - Carey yells as much as she sings. I guess Adele's success with "Skyfall" is prompting other singers to try for a movie-related hit.
Can't really tell too much about it from that short clip.
Although, it's good to hear she's apparently singing in her proper singing voice as opposed to that annoying breathing voice she tends to sing with.
Off the topic.
