'Mission: Impossible 4' Trailer Leaks Online Early

It seems so silly for a studio to not release these things online officially before theaters

UPDATE: You can watch the official English language version right here.

A leaked French trailer for Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (aka Mission Impossible 4) has arrived online (via The Playlist) and based on a brief skimming of the bootleg video it looks like the action from Dubai's Burj Khalifa is a focal point… at least of the trailer and I'm hoping it isn't the film's one big action sequence and they aren't spoiling it for audience's in the film's first promo.

The domestic trailer is set to debut in front of Tranformers: Dark of the Moon next week and with this leaked version online I would expect Paramount to move forward and give us a clean HD version no later than Tuesday… that's just a guess though.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles) and hits theaters on December 16. The film co-stars Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Vladimir Mashkov, Michael Nyqvist, Josh Holloway, Simon Pegg, Lea Seydoux and Anil Kapoor.

That just confirmed that they will receive my £7 on opening night.

It looks very good. I cannot agree more with what Brad says. When are these Studios going to learn their lesson??

I seriously hate the way that trailer is edited… A bunch of disconnected flashes of action separated by black screens that completely turns me off of the film rather than drawing me it. I only hope that the English version can grab me with dialog, because I'm eager to see what Brad Bird can do with live action and would much rather be hyped about the film going in.

I like the part where they spoke french…. and ran, i liked that part too.

Nah I kid, I'm a big fan of those films, i have a soft spot for M:I 2 even though i know it's pretty stupid, can't wait to see this film.. and the English trailer.

    • 'Pretty stupid'? Try completely. Between Dougray Scott's 'tortured' villain, Anthony Hopkins' shamelessly lazy boss, Richard Roxburgh's rubbish side-kick, Ving Rhames's previously-unhinted obsession with Visace, the annoying Aussie sidekick (played by director John Polson of all people) and a nonsense plot, M:I2 is all kinds of stupid.

And don't worry if the plot does not make any sense: John Woo actually told writer Robert Towne to write the story around his storyboarded action sequences. So it literally does not make any sense.

Thanks for clearing up what I already knew, and i know how hated it is. Also i was 10 when I saw it, so it's a nostalgia kind of thing for me, albeit not a very good one lol

Yeah, I like the other films in the franchise so I was planning on seeing it anyway. The trailer didn't do anything to dampen my intentions.

  6. I've never seen the M:I movies, the 007 movies or any movies like that. I liked The Bourne Identity though (the only one I saw)… Anyway, anyone recommend me to watch the M:I movies before seeing this one or doy you think I can just walk in to MI4 without knowledge of the others?

    • Winchester

You probably could. The previous films are are essentially stand-alone films and don't share any major plot continuation between them.

On the other hand, there's no reason not to watch any of them beforehand either.

      There's plenty of time to.

The french website (missionimpossible-lefilm.fr) referenced at the end credits of the trailer is not operational, which would suggest that this is a genuine leak, not viral marketing of sorts.

  8. That Gavin Fellow

Looks solid. Once I hear it in English it'll probably be solid-er. Also was that Simon Pegg with a gun in one split second shot?

  9. The Jackal

Tom Cruise? Brad Bird? HELL YES I CHOOSE TO ACCEPT THIS MISSION!! This film will be fantastic. I can't imagine that they've waited 5 years just to let us down with the continuing adventures of Ethan Hunt. Can't wait to catch this one in HD, English and on the big screen.

    Thems the facts

Watching MI:3 on TV right now. Crudup just delivered the "It's complicated" line which means Tom's about to go for a hell of a run soon.

Can't wait for 4. Or GP, whatever.

The vid is down unfortunately, and seems to be down everywhere since everyone just linked the same link :(
