Yesterday the Weinstein Co. delivered a welcomed surprise by giving us the first trailer for Lawless and today I have five new pictures from the film to share with you as my anticipation for the John Hillcoat-directed feature ramps up.

Set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, Lawless is based on the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers (Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Jason Clarke): bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant's family in his novel "The Wettest County in the World", the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation's most notorious crime wave.

Co-starrig in the film are Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska and Dane DeHaan and following its Cannes premiere it will hit theaters on August 31, a date targeted by the Weinstein Co. to take full advantage of rising star Tom Hardy after he'll be seen as the chief villain in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises.

As for those five new images, I have added thumbnails below, just give one of them a click to begin browsing the gallery or you can click here for all eight of the stills I have for the film.

I've also included the trailer below for any of you that may have missed it.

Just because he was shot doesn't mean he is dead. According to the true story of this family one of the brothers got his throat sliced and he survived. The pic is not spoiling anything.
