Little close for Death at a Funeral. comes out in 9 days

That says to me that they expected the 'R' and don't have to try cutting to a 'PG-13' for the studio. Glad to see a comedy that hasn't been castrated by a greedy or fearful exec.

One thing that bothered me about 'Ghost Writer' was watching Pierce Brosnan's lips mouth some variation of the F-bomb while hearing something sanitized from the soundtrack. It happened at least 3 times. For such an art-house limited release, I don't know why they wasted their time dubbing the language down. I can't imagine young people being interested in that movie's subject matter in the first place.

Speaking of 'close', when and what is A Nightmare on Elm Street going to be rated?

Those who've seen the original Death at a Funeral will probably think I'm blasphemous, but I think this one looks like it could be really, really funny. And honestly, I'm surprised to see it get an R. I thought they'd just go straight for the Tyler Perry demo, but his are always PG-13 (there may have been an R or two, I'm not sure actually). But at least this means the humor should be all-out, regardless of whether it's good or not. I hope it is, I'd love to do a Death at a Funeral/Kick-Ass double feature the weekend of April 16.

    • I agree with you…kinda. It doesn't look amazing, but "Death at a Funeral" looks a HELL of a lot better than anything Chris Rock or Martin Lawrence have done in the past 10 years. I'm for one glad that they're going the R-rated route, a la the "Friday" movies. Will it be good? Probably not. Then again, I've yet to see the original film & I have no attachment.

(P.S. No Tyler Perry movie has been R-rated. All of them have been PG-13, but Perry was an executive producer for "Precious" which WAS a hard R-rated film)

I agree with both Ian and Vince–I'm actually sort of interested in seeing this new "Death at the Funeral." I also want to see the old one. I wonder if it matters which order I watch them in–whether I try to rush out and grab the original before seeing the new one, or just be chill and catch the original in a month or two.

But if I'm to watch "Death" in theaters, it'll have to wait until I've seen "Kick-Ass," because that takes precedence.

      • JM:

Since it's a remake of a recent film, I'd probably wait. If they're really faithful to the British film, you'll see everything coming in the Chris Rock one. I made that mistake by watching Infernal Affairs the day The Departed came out.

Last Night just got one of the lightest (and therefore most ridiculous) R-ratings I've ever seen.

I think Brad missed the NOES rating. It is on the official website. It is R for Strong Bloody Horror Violence, Disturbing Images, Terror, and Language. It was originally rated R for Violence, Disturbing Images, and some Sexuallity. I guess that was too tame.

Death at a Funeral looks awesome.
