Lang and Rodriguez Join Cameron's 'Avatar'
Two more added to futuristic actioner
I get this feeling that once we finally get a glimpse at what James Cameron is doing with Avatar we are going to be blown away. However, the film doesn't release until May 22, 2009 and is just getting underway in Los Angeles before it moves production to New Zealand where it will take advantage of Peter Jackson's Weta Digital, which is supervising the film's visual effects. However, we continue to get cast names as Variety has just announced two more.
Stephen Lang and Michelle Rodriguez are joining Wes Studi, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Peter Mensah, CCH Pounder, Laz Alonso, Joel David Moore and Joel Moore in the futuristic action thriller.
In the film Lang plays a seasoned Marine Corps colonel who travels to the faraway planet Pandora to take charge of its troops. Rodriguez plays an ex-Marine pilot.
The film tells the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.
The big story behind Avatar involves Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment team who has researched a mix of live-action cinematography and virtual photorealistic production techniques which will feature virtual characters. Thirty-one days of live-action photography will begin on Weta soundstages in October.
The picture is being filmed in a new digital 3-D format.
