'King's Speech' Audience Members Get Hyperbolic
'To me the greatest gift you can give anybody is your voice.'
The Weinstein Co. sure knows how to run an Oscar campaign as this latest trailer for The King's Speech mops the floor with hyperbole as audience members are set against a black screen and wax poetic on what they thought of the film. Here are some choice quotes, a few of which I agree with and a couple that just had me laughing they reek so badly of "I want to say the right thing." After that you can watch the trailer for yourself.
"It's just a great story about friendship."
"Lionel knew how to tap right in to get him to overcome the obstacles."
"It's about freedom and authenticity and giving this man his voice back."
"Every one of the characters had to face their own challenge, and we all have had to do that."
"The King's Speech reminds us that we're all human."
"To me the greatest gift you can give anybody is your voice."
"Friendship, family, we all need those."

I'm sure someone could trot out something similar for The Social Network with relative ease.
Doubtful. The Social Network isn't a Sunday afternoon Lifetime sap story.
That's one opinion of it – not necesarily a definitive one.
At any rate, I have little doubt a similar campaign could be mounted for TSN with even greater ease.
I can't believe this movie is likely to win Best Picture. Why can't the Academy vote for the most exciting and interesting film, and best story of the year (The Social Network). It just goes to show, the Oscars are all politics with a little British love.
The last time I checked, The King's Speech hasn't won yet. I wish people would quit trying to read other peoples' minds. They suck at it.
I liked the movie, but I really didn't understand why people are seriously considering it for best picture. It is clearly not in the same level as The Social Network, True Grit, 127 hours, Black Swan and Toy Story. Hell, Inception is much more exciting and intriguing.
It is just a good film, well filmed, well acted, but nothing more than that.
It is like Shakespeare in Love all over again.
First of all, The Social Network is this year's Avatar..a fantasy-tic box office winner and that's it..Will it be remembered down the road??Eh for a few scenes other than that..boring..Was it worth the 10 or 12 bucks?? not.So to win the Oscar you'd better do more than that..Oscar winning films are films that hit you in the gut, that make you want to start a revolution or talk about it hours after its been over."the Social Network" did none of that. Neither did "The Kings Speech". I saw Black Swan, and had to go to a bar and drink afterwards and talk about it…that is an Oscar Film. Same goes to The Fighter or even Inception or Winter's Bone..ToyStory 3?? Fuck No…127 Hours?? You knew what was going to happen before it happened. True Grit??remakes don't win Oscars..Nuff said. If anything Tom Hanks voted for that film..
Remakes do win – The Departed was a remake. Sure, I don't understand WHY a compilation package of moments from better Scorcese films won, but it was still a remake.
Well, I wouldn't compare The Social Network to Avatar. They don't really have anything in common at all. And I wouldn't call The Social Network a big box office hit like Avatar was. TSN hasn't even hit $100 million in it's re-release, domestically. Avatar made over $700 million domestically.
Anyways, yeah this commercial is overkill. I like the film and all but this is just obnoxious.
