Kate Hudson Can Keep Her Rom-Com Card
For a while there it looked like she was on the right track
Nicole Kassell made a bit of a splash in 2004 with The Woodsman, a film in which she directed Kevin Bacon to some acclaim, but since then she hasn't really done much outside of directing three television episodes. I am not sure what happened in the past five years, but it appears she is going to make her big comeback with a romantic comedy starring the rom-com veteran Kate Hudson.
Hudson was beginning to look like she was done with rom-coms with her inclusion in Rob Marshall's Nine and production underway on Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me, but there must be something inside Hudson that draws her back to the inane.
Screen Daily reports the new film is titled Earthbound and was written by Gren Wells, whose only writing credit on IMDb is as an uncredited writer on the 2001 MTV Movie Awards. The film is about a guarded woman who uses caustic wit as her armor until she meets a like-minded man.
I really like Hudson as an actress and don't even mind her in romantic comedies on occassion, but with Bride Wars, My Best Friend's Girl, Fool's Gold and You, Me and Dupree over the past three years it begins to get an audience member down. Let's hope for the best with this next one.

A couple of months ago Kate Hudson was interviewed in Elle magazine, moaning about how she gets pigeonholed as a rom-com actress and wanted more serious roles. If she's signing up for this, maybe it's because it's the only type of thing she's being offered? Meryl Streep she ain't!
