Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford to play all three stages of Ryan's life?

Okay, so the teaser is bullshit, but so is the fact that Judd Apatow is presenting any of today's articles at RopeofSilicon.com. It's just a bit of fun is what it is… Hoo Ahhh!

The real truth is in the headline, as Sam Raimi is in negotiations with Paramount Pictures to kick off a whole new franchise based on Tom Clancy's famed character Jack Ryan. Ryan was previously portrayed by Alec Baldwin in Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger; and then Ben Affleck in Sum of All Fears.

This isn't the first time the character has been brought up recently. Back in January rumors were started that The Constant Gardener director Fernando Meirelles was going to take on the franchise. Apparently the franchise is a real deal, but Meirelles is not mentioned.

Nope, this is something Paramount wants Raimi to develop and direct with the intention to generate several films featuring Ryan at a younger, more formative point in his career than previously depicted. One invention the studio is considering is to set the film in the present, with the action triggered by a global threat.

This isn't a slow moving train either. Paramount is already out to writers to get to work on the project with hopes that it would be Raimi's next outing following his upcoming return to horror with Drag Me To Hell starring Alison Lohman. Paramount wants the Ryan movie ready for release in summer 2010.

Strangely enough story details aren't firmed up and while Clancy is finishing a new Ryan novel the studio has not yet read it and so hasn't decided if it will use the new book or come up with an original story.

What this does mean, however, for Spider-Man fans, is that if Raimi took this on you would most likely not see another Raimi directed Spidey… That is unless Sony wanted to wait until 2011 to release it.
