Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joins Chris Nolan's 'Inception'

This guy has a bright, bright future

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is quite the interesting actor as he moved from playing the alien Tommy in TV's "3rd Rock from the Sun" into a nice little indie film career that really gained traction after 2005's Brick. His career seems to have just increased as his summer rom-com with Zooey Deschanel, 500 Days of Summer has already received a lot of good buzz and he has himself the lead villain role as the Cobra Commander in this summer's toy flick G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. So, when news of a role in Christopher Nolan's Inception hits the trades you can pretty much say things are looking up for the 28-year-old.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter saying Levitt will takeover the role that would have been occupied by James Franco had scheduling worked out, but Franco had to bow out for the David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) comedy Your Highness, which means Levitt's in luck.

Of course, we still know nothing about the film other than the little description saying it is a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within "the architecture of the mind."

But we do know the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Levitt's character will play an associate of Leo's. Marion Cotillard is already on board as DiCaprio's wife, Ellen Page is playing a grad student and DiCaprio's sidekick and Cillian Murphy is also in the cast.

The film is expected to begin shooting this summer for a July 16, 2010 release.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt can choose his movies like a pro. "Mysterious Skin", "Brick", "The Lookout" – all daring and fascinating pictures. He's one of my favorites these days.

This cast and this director means something truly great could be in the making…
I wish we knew more about the plot and characters though, actually if I am making wishes, I wish I had a time travel device so I could watch the movie now…also so I could pick up a sports almanac and place some bets!

Whoa, I haven't been keeping up with the casting news for Inception. Cillian Murphy? Marion Cotillard? Ellen Page as Leo's sidekick? James Franco was once attached to this?(Joseph Gordon-Levitt sounds great too though). This movie seems all kinds of awesome and a fantasy come true so far.

Nolan never disappoints even in the casting process. Everyone attached to this so far is pure gold (and he's getting first choices for every role because of TDK I bet). With a Nolan script, I can't see how this film can go wrong.

The only thing I'm worried about is how the rumors will fly that Levitt will play Robin in Batman 3. Mark my words, we'll never hear the end of it.

I've been saying for the last 6 months that Levitt would be great as the Joker if Nolan is planning on revisiting that character. He's a talented, underappreciated actor who bears more than a slight resemblance to Heath Ledger. I have no basis to claim this will happen but for some reason I can't get it out of my head that it will.

And all of you forgot his role as a reporter on Spike Lee's "Miracle at St Anna" he did a really good job on that also.

oh my. dicaprio, murphy and page. and nolan. looking forward to see it!

@Stiggs: Totally agree. If anyone can step into the shoes of Ledger's Joker, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the guy to do it. He's an extraordinarily talented actor who has made fine choices these past couple years. By attaching himself to a Director like Nolan, this is just another massive step in his career.

This sounds great! I like everyone in the cast. They say Michael Caine is also attached.

well there is no doubt, this kid can act, but saying that he can fill heath's shoes as joker, just coz he looks like heath is just plain stupid. he's not as big and tall as heath, he still hasnt lost that boyish looking face, heath's face and range on motions were well beyond a guy over 30 yrs old, and that's really the key, because joker from the batman comic books is not a teen/tween clearly. nothing against lewitt, the guy's got a bright future, just dont see him as joker, i hope they get someone in their 30's 40's

Chris Nolan can do no wrong in my eyes, if he wanted to do a musical i would pay $, I think he's this generations Hitchcock in some ways, which is Definately a complament.

He really does kind of look like Heath Ledger. I don't care what anyone says, I love 10 Things I Hate About You. One of the few teen comedies I thoroughly enjoy.

Anyways, this movie is really shaping up to look pretty good, although I am not a fan of Ellen Page.
