Warner Bros. has just sent over the new poster as well as debuted the first official trailer for Jonah Hex on Yahoo, a trailer I saw last night and think it's a film that may have the potential to be fun, but I'll say there are plenty of trouble spots. I mentioned this in a previous post, but the trailer showed in front of my A Nightmare on Elm Street screening last night and when Megan Fox came on screen the audience actually began laughing… not sure that's a good sign for her career.

The film is based on the DC Comics character and the film stars Josh Brolin as the title character, a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (John Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of the undead to liberate the South. Will Arnett, Michael Fassbender and Michael Shannon also star.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the trailer in the comments below. Have they done the source material justice for those that have read them? Is it too over-the-top? Not over-the-top enough? Personally I think the make-up on Hex looks a bit weak, but it's hard to judge based on a trailer alone.

The film hits theaters on June 18… and without further delay here's the trailer and the poster, which you can get a larger look at in the RopeofSilicon gallery right here along with 15 screen captures taken from the trailer such as the one you see above.

I'd love to tell you, but your player keeps jamming up in the same spot. But what I did see reminded me a lot of 'Ghost Rider' for some reason. I won't be racing off to the theatre to see this one.

this looks sick. the weapons are so sick. But it comes out the same weekend of toy story 3. But ill try to see both

  3. Brolin and Fox's one liners seemed to be written for forced laughs like in Wild Wild West (Will Smith) and came off as campy and awkward. Ghost Rider also comes to mind in the cannibalism of comics to movies.

It looks like to me like another comic book movie that will suck because the producers want to open up the story, thereby distorting it, to include all demographics. Like in Kick-Ass, where he doesn't get the girl in the book setting up for a hilarious joke at the end of the comic, but in the movie, he gets this smoking hot girl in the middle of the movie itself…

And Josh Brolin is unrecognizable in the poster. Looks like Paul Walker.

  4. Joker

Does anyone think this will be R?

  5. Joker

R for some strong violence, disturbing images, sexuality, nudity, and language. That's what I think it'll be.

    • No way will it be R. With the addition of Megan Fox, they're aiming for young males (yrs 12 and over). And it's got a huge budget. If it was going to be rated R, they would make it with much less money. I feel that Hollywood is now committed to making comic book movies because they're moneymakers with options for sequels.

I feel this one is going to fail harder than Ghost Rider, especially with the extensive reshoots with director Francis Lawrence. Scroll down to Jonah Hex Buzz.

I am very exited for this :)

Finally! A western-style movie that has big explosions!

I think Megan Fox has been quite successful in movies like this because she's not the main focus. More movies as the right hand woman and she may actually be taken seriously.

I'm honestly not interested with Toy Story 3, it's the least appealing for me out of all the Pixar movies (except A Bug's Life). I might just pass that one for this, I just hope this won't suck.

    I thought that looked terrible

Looks like fun, but Megan Fox's Southern accent is laughably bad. (And it looks a lot better than the steaming turd "Wild Wild West.")

And this looks to be very much an R-rated film. I heard that since "Jonah Hex" isn't a property WB will sequelize (and mandate a PG-13 rating), it'll be R-rated.

But with the reshoots done this past January, it could very well be that issue.

  10. I don't know about this one. It definitely reminds me of Ghost Rider. It looks to have the potential to be okay, but entertaining, or it could fall flat on its face as did Ghost Rider. In the end though I don't think it will be more than a mediocre summer film.

Oh and I didn't find any of the one liners funny at all, and I LIKED Wild Wild West.

definitely looks like some good over-the-top fun.

*sigh* Can't believe Josh Brolin couldn't have a much better vehicle to break into the mainstream/blockbuster summer movies.

When AICN posters-who are almost always predisposed to liking this type of flick- who got into a recent test screening are ripping this film, that's a bad sign.

Anyway, that weekend is all about one movie anyway-Good job by the way WB for putting this in position to be blitzkrieged to oblivion-and this sure is not it.

      1. Lukewarm-and I'm probably being generous with that descripition-reception/buzz from fanboys
      2. Bad buzz from early test screenings
      3. A so-so trailer that didn't really set the world on fire and get everyone on the Hex bandwagon
      4. Oh..and a brain cramp of a move opening it against Toy Story 3. WB just wrapped the noose tightly around their own necks by trying to open this thing wide that weekend.

    meh.

John Malkovich should've accepted the Green Goblin role back then. He and Brolin deserve better than this.

  14. randy

yuck!! megan fox terrible choice… obviously they care more about the looks other then the acting. because shes completley void of that !!

    • Aidan

I totally agree! I was actually looking forward to this until i realized that she was involved, now I'm just dreading it

This trailer looks like a Western version of Ghost Rider. I have to say though, I have never before seen such an obvious miscast in a trailer before, but Megan Fox looks completly out of place.

  16. The Jackal

Looks like a cross between Wild Wild West and The Outlaw Josey Wales + Meghan Fox. Hey, what the hell, this film could be a lot of fun.

  17. TS

I actually was one of the people to see a test screening. It was ok. Got some pretty bad word of mouth though. Josh Brolin and John Malkovich were ok. Megan Fox is ridiculously hot in it but she was a terrible actress in it.

  18. TS

Also has quite a ghost rider and hellboy vibe to it.

As long as Mastodon is still doing the soundtrack, I'm in.
