Jolie Bails on 'Wanted 2' for Cuaron's 'Gravity'

This girl has got the power

This is an interesting development considering it seemed like a sure thing Wanted 2 was moving forward and considering the script was being developed with Angelina Jolie's character I have a hard time believing they would have started work without making sure she was signed on to star. However, it appears that's exactly the case as Vulture reports Jolie has pulled out of Wanted 2, the planned Timur Bekmambetov sequel, and instead of recasting the role Universal has pulled the plug altogether.

Instead, Jolie is reportedly going to star in the space thriller Gravity for Children of Men director Alfonso Cuaron. Cuaron penned the script with his son Jonas, which would see Jolie as the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter.

Ironically, Gravity was originally a Universal property before the sent it into turnaround, which is when Warner Bros. picked it up. Naturally, as pointed out by Claude Brodesser-Akner at Vulture, the plot is strangely similar to that of Moon and perhaps based on the buzz of that film, the capable hands of Cuaron and the bankability of Jolie is what has made the project something worth doing whereas Universal is said to seen it as an "artistically challenging project.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows producer David Heyman and Legendary Pictures are shepherding the pic for Warners.

Good call, Jolie. I actually liked Wanted, but there's no reason for a sequel.

I agree with Will completely. "Wanted" was great, but having Angelina Jolie in space directed by CuarĂ³n and produced by Warner Bros. is so much more of a jizz factory than "Wanted 2." I'm excited and I hope "Gravity" makes it into production soon!

I agree… good call. There's always an air of desperation to any project where they resurrect someone who was clearly killed in order to do a sequel. Better to move on to something new than a project where the story has to go through contortions just to justify continuing.

  3. Ditto. She's way better than just another crappy sequel to pad the studio's earnings statement.

No biggie. I was dreading the convoluted explanation for her character even being in the sequel

Wanted 2 is probly better off without her anyways, as bringing her back to life would be pretty far fetched.

Good movie from Jolie! Her new project sounds really interesting. Also, I'm glad they have shelved Wanted 2. The first one was good, but a sequel was not required, especially with Jolie in it.

I was interested in seeing 'Wanted' until my teenager son told me not to bother, calling it one of the stupidest movies he's ever seen. What I don't understand is why the studio uses these awful pictures of Jolie's arm, like in the movie poster and the one Brad uses in front of this article. The woman has no muscle…it looks gross. In the movie, isn't Jolie's character supposed to be a kickass-bitch? If so, at least photoshop that arm. Give her something that doesn't look you could snap it off and beat her with it.

I would rather see "Wanted 2" then a rip off of "Moon."
Considering how ridicoulous and out of control Wanted 1 was, I wanted see Wanted 2 and watch them take out the other "houses" or whatever they called them. 2 could've been the last and would've presumably put Angelina Jolie more in front.
Why scrap it? At least take the script and make it direct-to-dvd for god sakes.

Wanted was the only Angelina Jolie action movie I didn't see, because the curving bullet thing looked stupid. This new project sounds good, though. Salt is on my list of "must see" movies this year.
