.) When I wrote my last Morning 5 article (more than a week ago), the big story was Marvel narrowing their search for the lead role in Guardians of the Galaxy down to three contenders: Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Zachary Levi ("Chuck") and a third unnamed candidate. Well, that third candidate has now been revealed in the form of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The character in question is the leader of the Guardians, Starlord Peter Quill, who is the offspring of a human mother and an alien father. James Gunn (Super) is writing and directing the film for an August 1, 2014 release. [Deadline]
.) If JGL takes the Guardians of the Galaxy role, it would certainly make his rumored involvement in the upcoming Justice League movie a bit more cloudy. At any rate, Cosmic Book News has gotten hold of a list of the characters set to appear in the Justice League movie, complete with character descriptions. The major players will be Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman. The source says Green Lantern will be Ryan Reynolds' character from the much-maligned Green Lantern, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone. Lois Lane and Alfred Pennyworth are also slated for smaller roles.
.) Back to the Marvel universe for a minute, where Hayley Atwell has confirmed she will not return to the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A search for the new leading lady (rumored to be Sharon Carter, Peggy's niece) is still ongoing with names like Jessica Brown Findlay ("Downton Abbey"), Emilia Clarke ("Game of Thrones") Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Alison Brie (The Five-Year Engagement) being thrown around in connection to the role. As mentioned in The Avengers, Peggy Carter is still alive in the modern setting, but it would make more sense to recast the character with an older actress if she is to resurface at all. [TimeOut]
.) Jay-Z is composing the entire score for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby. He's working with another artist called The Bullits, who announced the news on Twitter with the following post: "Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC 'The Great Gatsby. It is too DOPE for words." Anyone else suddenly a lot more interested in the film? [The Telegraph]
.) And finally, Crystal McCahill will have a role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and was kind enough to offer a look at her character. While she didn't say anything about the character, it's a good bet from looking at the pictures she'll be one of the "Ladies of Old Town." [Bleeding Cool]
