Jessica Chastain Joins Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

Word is she'll play the film's third lead

Jessica Chastain is in talks to join Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, the Dark Knight director's new film involving time travel and alternate dimensions. reports she'll play the film's third lead in a story that is said to see a group of explorers travel through a wormhole.

The script was written by Nolan's brother, Jonathan Nolan, and is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech. Like Nolan's Inception, the story is said to be "complex and multi-layered".

Warner Bros. has set a November 7, 2014 release date for Interstellar.

    Shit just got real!

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

    • navaneethks

This news and your comment just made my day.

  • Harry Fuertes

YES. Been waiting for this news for a while now.

  • Mikey

Great casting. Nolan's struggled to create interesting female characters. But both Cottilard's Mal in Inception and Hathaway's Selina in Rises, lead me to believe he might be getting the hang of it (Cottilard in Rises? eh not so much). Anyway this is shaping up to be another one of his great casts. Might be my most anticipated for next year.

  • Kessler

That's a great cast so far. Who doesn't love Jessica Chastain?

  • Chris

Yes!!! Loving this cast so far!

  • Gannon Ray

This looks even more promising... Can't wait!

  • Ryguy815

So excited for this!!! This could be even better than TDKR (which is my personal favourite Nolan movie).

  • Xarnis

Awesome. Chastain is quickly becoming my favorite working actress.

    • Ryguy815

Are you serious? You like her even more than Jeninifer Lawrence? I mean Chastain isn't that great of an actress but Lawrence..whew!, she knocks it out of the park with every role she's in!

      • Ryguy815

Well in my opinion she's not that great of an actress but I respect your opinion nonetheless.

      • Xarnis

Chastain was great in Tree of Life, Zero Dark Thirty, The Help, and Take Shelter. She was nominated for an Oscar two years in a row (and, I thought she should've won this year). Jennifer Lawrence is great, but I wasn't blown away by her performances in X-Men: First Class or The Hunger Games.

        • Ryguy815

I will admit I liked her in Zero Dark Thirty however I didn't like her in Tree Of Life. Haven't seen the other two films you mentioned. I personally really enjoyed Jennifer Lawrence in both X-Men: First Class and The Hunger Games more than I've liked Jessica Chastain in any movie.

        • Michael

Also she was great in The Debt.

          • Ryguy815

            Haven't seen that one either.

      • Michael

I love Lawrence but Chastain has better resume right now. The Debt, Take Shelter, The Help, even her good voice work in Madagascar 3, The Tree of Life & Zero Dark Thirty. I mean, that's really good. She's great in all of them. Besides, Zero Dark Thirty & Tree of Life, what other movies you've seen her in?

        • Ryguy815

I forgot she was in Madagascar 3 but I've seen that one and I've seen the first couple minutes of Lawless. Now that I think of it I've also seen the first couple minutes of The Help. I believe that's it however.

          • Michael

I thought she put in great voice work in Madagascar 3 to be honest, I thought she great. Lawless isn't really her best but it wasn't her fault due to being miscast. Yeah, I recommend you check out the rest of her movies, she's really great to watch.

            • Ryguy815

Yeah, I'll definitely try to watch more of her films! Which films of hers would you recommend I start with?

              • Corbin

I haven't seen her in a lot of things, so I would just say The Help, because you said you'd already seen Tree of Life.

              • Michael

                Definitely, The Help :D

              • Ryguy815

@Corbin and Michael: Thanks for the recommendation, I'll try to seek that movie out!

      • andyluvsfilms

I prefer Chastain over Lawrence every time, She is amazing in ZD30 and Take Shelter, Lawrence's best work is still WInter's Bone, im not a fan of The Hunger Games and thought she was decent in SLP but not exceptional

    • Jake17

Agreed. She already has an impressive resume.

  • Michael

Oh my goodness!! I was already excited when Nolan got attached and then got more excited with the McConaughey & Hathaway casting. Now, Chastain? My goodness, now I really cannot wait!

  • Chris138

This cast is pretty fascinating. I'm really looking forward to see how things go from here.

  • navaneethks

wow. i did not expect this great news

  • Beautifulm

    Go Chastain!

  • Corbin

    Chastain is in da house!

I'm sorry, but like Adu, I couldn't resist.

  • memo

    YES!!! Love this.

  • ViralVora

this is exciting news! thanks for the birthday gift Nolan! woohooo!

  • JN Films

    Nolanites rejoice!!!!!

  • andyluvsfilms

this has an amazing cast, director and story, its easily one of my most anticipated, i may even forgive him for the generic TDKR after this

  • Gautam Anand

Well, without sounding smug, I have to say.. I did predict this. Chastain is the current hot product

  • JessicaChastained

What wonderful news! Such a big fan of Jessica, can't wait for more awesome work from her :)

  • G-Man

More and more excited I get. #Nolanite

  • Sir Trey

Chastain's been in my top film of the year two years running now (2011: The Help, 2012: Zero Dark Thirty) and has been simply wonderful in pretty much everything else I've seen her in. As if I wasn't already extremely excited for Interstellar...

  • Ducard

They should just retitle this movie "Stellar" as in stellar casting. Chastain gave my favorite performance last year in "Zero Dark Thirty". Jeez! I guess if you're going to make about The Stars you might as well feature stars like McConaughey, Hathaway, Sir Michael Caine & now Chastain. (Is there a rhyming pattern here?)

  • Cristy0019

Please, please let this be true! Jessica Chastain is one of my favorite actress and I love Chris Nolan movies. I'm sure this will be AWESOME!
