Jason's Loose Now Freddy Finds a Helmer
Horror remakes from the '80s are running wild
Last year we had Prom Night. This year we have Friday the 13th. And next year it looks like it will be Freddy Krueger's time to return to the big screen as horror remakes of films from the '80s look to become all the rage as today THR's Risky Biz Blog notes Samuel Bayer has been set as the director of the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake for Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema.
This will mark Bayer's feature film debut as he is best known as a music video helmer for such videos as Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Garbage's "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Zombie" by the Cranberries.
This weekend sees the return of Jason Voorhees as Platinum Dunes is also responsible for the Friday the 13th reboot directed by Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake helmer Marcus Nispel. That film pretty much recaps the original Friday the 13th feature from 1980 in the first 10 minutes and then serves as something that could be considered Friday the 13th Part 2: Redux as Jason haunts a group of vacationing college brats.
Apparently A Nightmare on Elm Street will specifically return to its roots and will feature a strong element of the first picture, in which Krueger famously began haunting teenagers' dreams, attacking them violently in their subconscious in ways that resulted in their real-life deaths.
The script was penned by Wesley Strick (Cape Fear, Arachnophobia) . The original Nightmare was released in 1984 and written and directed by Wes Craven, 2009 marks its 25th anniversary.

ive heard billy bob thornton is up for the role of Freddy kruger but that could be just a rumor
I wonder what´s freddy gonna look like? Are they gonna use rubbermask or are they gonna do it with CGI…kinda like TwoFace?
Guy who directed Smells like teen spirit is an interesting choice for a Teen Slasher movie. Smells like teen spirit indeed!

Only Robert Englund should play Freddy, period. He made the character; that is that.
With Jason or Michael Myers, it really doesn't matter because there just men walking around with a costume on, showing no emotion, acting really creepy (not that such a role requires no talent, but a face isn't needed).
Robert Englund does random movies all the time; do a little negotiating and he will come back.
And really, can't it just be a sequel? Jason and Halloween was one thing, but again Freddy is a face, and that same face doing something that he did beforehand will not fit or work correctly.
I really don't get the point of remaking hellraiser either, unless they want to make it a direct adaptation of the book it was based on, a hellbound heart (which elements were different, and some plot elements were used in Hellraiser: Bloodline and a little in hellraiser: Inferno as well). Why not make it Hellraiser: Razor (not worse than Hellseeker, Hellworld, etc) or something like that? It doesn't have to have a number.
Try something different. It worked for Indiana Jones, Rambo, and especially Rocky when everybody hated Rocky 5. So why not ressurect the series with a respectable movie to live up to even the first 4 (if your a fan of hellraiser and have ignored the direct-to-dvd sequels that aren't so good, watch hellraiser: Deader. It goes back to the routes in some ways and offers something fresh as well).
