Jamie Foxx to Solve 'Zebra Murders'
Hope they do this one right
Back when I interviewed Matt Carnahan for The Kingdom and he told me he was writing a feature based on Prentice Earl Sanders and Bennett Cohen's "The Zebra Murders" and just the way he described it, I was sure it wasn't going to take long for someone to jump on it and look here, Jamie Foxx has already signed on.
The film is based on a true story and chronicles the series of racially motivated serial killings — black on white — that took place in San Francisco in 1973 and 1974. Foxx will play Sanders, who was one of two black police detectives who led the team that cracked the case. Amid their investigation, Sanders and his partner fought harassment within the police department and organized a union of minority policemen who brought a lawsuit against the city for discrimination, which they ultimately won. Sanders went on to become chief of police.
DreamWorks/Paramount is distributing the pic, but as of now there is currently no one attached to direct, but with Foxx aboard that should change soon.

You're not the only one who hopes they do this one right. Because if they do, it's going to be one of the most compelling stories ever told. Its a very complicated story with complex and heroic characters -truly about 5 good stories in one. While I am delighted that Foxx will play Earl Sanders (perfect match), I am most interested to know who they cast as his partner, Rotea Gilford. Rotea was the strongest and most incredibly charismatic figure in Sanders' life, to say nothing of the SFPD, so it'll be interesting to see how they cast that role. The writing also has to be phenomenally edgy . . . because the key to survival of all of this stuff was humor – and the team of Earl and Rotea defined funny in those days.
who do you think will play the two greek detectives who are the ones that were the leaders of the zebra team. these guys spent nights and days away from there familys trying to solve the case. they handled most of the work load and no one as even talked about them. are people blind or just dishonest? please respond if you are capable. and what about all the white and espanic and asian cops who worked there days off to help catch these cowards. cw
