James Mangold Attached to Helm Potential Cruise and Diaz Rom-Com
Doesn't sound too interesting to me
Back on February 19 Variety did a rundown of potential Tom Cruise projects and one of them was titled Wichita, a possible team-up with Cameron Diaz, playing an undercover agent who gets thrown together with a woman who has man trouble. Well, Cruise is still circling the pic with Cameron Diaz and Variety now reports James Mangold (Walk the Line and 3:10 to Yuma) is now attached to direct.
Patrick O'Neill penned the original draft of the script and at one time Chris Tucker and Eva Mendes were attached last year along with director Tom Dey. That obviously never came to fruition as Frank and Dana Fox have also had a hand at the script, which is now getting a rewrite by Scott Frank (The Lookout).
The synopsis as reported by Variety this time around reads a little different than the last time saying the film revolves around a woman who has terrible luck with men but finds her path intertwined with that of a mysterious handsome man she meets on a blind date.
This news seems to be extremely preliminary as neither Cruise or Diaz are formally attached and Mangold hasn't signed and is only listed as attached. Who know what will eventually come of this, but it would be the second go 'round for Diaz and Cruise as the two also starred together in Vanilla Sky in 2001 as I am sure you all remember the attached clip (with the weird freeze frame intro).
